Background: The development of the endoscopic technique has resulted in an increasing number of patients undergoing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) insertion; however, the protocols for increasing the volume of feeding formula after PEG insertion have not been established. Therefore, we compared the clinical outcomes of patients receiving low- and high-volume increase in enteral feeding formula.
Methods: A total of 215 patients who underwent PEG insertion between January 2016 and March 2019 were included. They were divided into 2 groups according to the increase in volume of feeding formula: the low-volume group (n = 135) received ≤150 mL/d, and the high-volume group (n = 80) received ≥300 mL/d. Patient characteristics, procedure, and feeding-related clinical outcomes were retrospectively reviewed using medical records.
Results: The adverse events of the feeding protocol did not significantly differ between the 2 groups. The number of days needed to attain the calorie targets was significantly lower in the high-volume group than in the low-volume group (5.4 ± 3.0 vs 2.4 ± 1.5; P < .001). The duration of supplemental parenteral nutrition and the length of hospitalization were also significantly lower in the high-volume group (3.9 ± 3.3 vs 1.2 ± 2.2; P < .001 and 5.8 ± 2.7 vs 4.6 ± 2.6; P = .007, respectively).
Conclusion: To rapidly attain the calorie targets in appropriately selected patients with PEG insertion, a high-volume increase in daily feeding can safely be recommended given the favorable outcomes.

This study investigated headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME)-gas chromatography (GS)/mass spectrometry as a low-complexity method for accurate measurement of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) changes in humans over time following alcohol consumption. The aim was to develop an analytical method that would require as small blood samples as possible-smaller than that required for the conventional method-thereby reducing the burden on the subject. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as the fiber material for SPME, and a DB-WAX capillary column was used for GC.

Surface modification by polyethylene glycol (PEG) is valuable to assist clinical translation of lipid-based nanomedicines but suffering "PEG dilemma" due to unavoidable interaction with anti-PEG antibodies. Considering high detection rates of pre-existing anti-PEG antibodies in clinic, it is urgent to enrich PEGylation strategies to resist anti-PEG antibodies and improve drug delivery efficiency. Herein, regulatory effects of different PEGylation strategies on in vivo performance of PEGylated liposomes and related mechanisms were explored.

Atrial fibrillation and cerebral amyloid angiopathy often coexist in older adults and can make post-stroke management particularly challenging, especially when further complicated by comorbidities such as cirrhosis. We present the case of a 78-year-old man admitted with an acute ischaemic stroke and persistent dysphagia. He was initially fed via a nasogastric tube, but ongoing swallowing difficulties led to the insertion of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube.

In this paper, we propose an active touch sensing algorithm designed for robust hole localization in 3D objects, specifically aimed at assembly tasks such as peg-in-hole operations. Unlike general object detection algorithms, our solution is tailored for precise localization of features like hole openings using sparse tactile feedback. The method builds on a prior 3D map of the object and employs a series of iterative search algorithms to refine localization by aligning tactile sensing data with the object's shape.

The prognosis of adult patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has improved with the incorporation of pediatric-inspired regimens that contain PEGylated asparaginase (PEG-Asp). However, PEG-Asp administration is associated with an increased rate of thrombosis. Data regarding the benefits of antithrombin (AT) repletion and prophylactic anticoagulation in adults receiving PEG-Asp-based regimens are limited.
