Article Abstract

The key to fully leveraging the potential of the electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CO2RR) to achieve a sustainable solar-power-based economy is the development of high-performance electrocatalysts. The development process relies heavily on trial and error methods due to poor mechanistic understanding of the reaction. Demonstrated here is that ionic liquids (ILs) can be employed as a chemical trapping agent to probe CO2RR mechanistic pathways. This method is implemented by introducing a small amount of an IL ([BMIm][NTf ]) to a copper foam catalyst, on which a wide range of CO2RR products, including formate, CO, alcohols, and hydrocarbons, can be produced. The IL can selectively suppress the formation of ethylene, ethanol and n-propanol while having little impact on others. Thus, reaction networks leading to various products can be disentangled. The results shed new light on the mechanistic understanding of the CO2RR, and provide guidelines for modulating the CO2RR properties. Chemical trapping using an IL adds to the toolbox to deduce the mechanistic understanding of electrocatalysis and could be applied to other reactions as well.

Photocatalysis has emerged as a promising strategy to address water pollution caused by heavy metals and antibiotics. Zeolites exhibit significant potential in petrochemical catalysis; however, the development of zeolite-based photocatalysts remains a critical challenge for researchers. Herein, a novel Z-scheme heterojunction was designed and fabricated on the titanium-silicon zeolite TS-1 by modifying g-CN via a simple calcination process.

An innovative 4D targeted method was developed for the determination of 61 bioactive compounds in royal jelly (RJ) related to their health-promoting properties. The method, apart from high-resolution mass spectrometry, exploits the advantages of vacuum-insulated probe-heated electrospray ionization source (VIP-HESI), reducing thermal degradation, and trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS), improving selectivity and compound identification. The optimization of VIP-HESI ionization parameters using experimental designs showed that the critical parameters were the capillary voltage as well as the probe gas flow rate and temperature.

Infrared photodetectors are crucial for autonomous driving, providing reliable object detection under challenging lighting conditions. However, conventional silicon-based devices are limited in their responsivity beyond 1100 nm. Here, a scallop-structured silicon photodetector integrated with tin-substituted perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) that effectively extends infrared detection is demonstrated.

Electronic capacitor films based on polymer matrices and inorganic nanofillers capable of storing more energy play a crucial role in advanced modern electrical industries and devices. Herein, a series of nanocomposite films composed of "core-shell-dot" BNNs-PDA@Ag hybrid structures with multiple breakdown strength enhancement mechanisms as fillers and methyl methacrylate--glycidyl methacrylate (MG) copolymers as matrices were successfully synthesized. The introduced 2D and wide-bandgap BNNs not only enhanced the breakdown strength by taking advantage of their excellent physical properties, but also further improved their energy storage properties both at ambient and elevated temperatures through the formation of deeper traps at the organic-inorganic interface.

Exhaled breath analysis offers noninvasive, early lung cancer detection via volatile organic compound (VOC) biomarkers, surpassing blood-based methods. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is ideal for this purpose, combining molecular fingerprint specificity with single-molecule sensitivity. However, conventional SERS substrates face a fundamental limitation: while porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks effectively adsorb VOCs through their subnanometer pores (0.
