Article Abstract

Background: This systematic review determines the levels of physical activity (PA) during school hours in children and adolescents.

Methods: Studies carried out from January 1987 to December 2019 were retrieved from four databases (Web of Science, Pubmed, Scopus and SportDiscus). The 29 selected studies were cross-sectional, long-term and case studies.

Results: Most of them used accelerometers and showed that male and female children accumulated a mean of between 14 and 68 min of moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) during school hours (3%-22% of this daily segment), and male and female adolescents accumulated a mean of between 13 and 28 min of MVPA during this daily segment (3%-8% of the school hours). Less than a quarter of children and adolescents reached the recommended 30 min of MVPA during school hours, with notable differences between sexes.

Conclusions: These results suggest that the levels of PA during school hours are not enough, and consequently, schools should develop strategies for helping children and adolescents reach the school PA recommendation.

Background: Sleep duration plays a crucial role in cognitive health and is closely linked to cognitive decline. However, the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive function in the Chinese population remains poorly understood.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the association between sleep duration and cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults in China.

Background: Postoperative swelling is a common complication after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), associated with pain, limited mobility, and delayed recovery. This study aimed to systematically review the literature on interventions that reduce postoperative swelling, categorized into preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.

Methods: A Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-compliant search of PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases was performed for clinical studies evaluating interventions to reduce swelling after primary TKA.

National Aplysia Resource. Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, University of Miami, Key Biscayne, FL, USA.

Current therapeutics for hypoxic/ischemic brain damage can benefit from insights resulting from the study of hypoxia/anoxia resistant organisms. Hypoxia resistance, however, is not a common feature in mammalian models. Being naturally exposed to hypoxic/anoxic conditions, the sea hare could become a very useful model for the study of hypoxia resistance.

Biofuels Institute, School of Emergency Management, School of the Environment and Safety Engineering, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, PR China.

is a thermophilic acetogenic bacterium capable of thriving at elevated temperatures up to 66°C. It metabolizes carbohydrates such as glucose, mannose, and fructose and can also grow lithotrophically utilizing hydrogen (H) and carbon dioxide (CO) or carbon monoxide (CO), with acetate serving as its main product. A simple and efficient genome editing system for would not only facilitate the understanding of the physiological function of enzymes involved in energy and carbon metabolism but also enable metabolic engineering.
