To assess the contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in organisms in the estuary of Changhua River in Hainan, we determined the content of 16 priority PAHs by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The composition, source, and potential edible risk of PAHs were studied. The results showed that the total PAHs of demersal fish (wet weight, same below), crustaceans, and pelagic fish were 5.52-787.98, 12.18-154.64, and 10.20-199.79 ng·g, respectively, and the average contents were 83.21, 64.72, and 89.48 ng·g, respectively. There were some differences in the content of PAHs in various organisms. The average content followed the order of pelagic fish > demersal fish > crustaceans. Compared with other areas in the country and abroad, the content of marine organisms'PAHs in the estuary of the Changhua River was above the medium level. The result of isomer characteristic ratio showed that the PAHs of 33 organisms mainly came from the combustion sources (petroleum combustion and biomass combustion) and petroleum sources. Moreover, demersal fish were greatly affected by combustion sources, while pelagic fish were greatly affected by petroleum sources. Human risk assessment indicated that the content of benzopyrene (BaP) was within the limits set by the European Union. Most of the organisms in the estuary of Changhua River were within the safe range of consumption, but the long-term consumption of these seafoods may pose a potential health risk (1.0×10≤ILCR<1.0×10).

Numerous organic chemicals are present in aquatic environments, yet systematically identifying and prioritizing these compounds remains a major challenge, particularly in tropical island watersheds where data are scarce. In this study, we applied high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)-based non-target screening to comprehensively characterize emerging organic pollutants in three major rivers of Hainan Province-Changhua, Wanquan, and Nandu. A total of 177 high-confidence compounds were identified, spanning pharmaceuticals, industrial additives, pesticides, and natural products.

Therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are often designed to not only bind targets via their antigen-binding domains (Fabs) but to also engage with cell surface receptors, FcγRs and FcRn, through their Fc regions, which may result in a variety of functional outcomes, including antibody- dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP), complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) and alteration of circulating half-lives. Engineering the Fc regions to achieve desirable pharmacology and pharmacokinetics is a widely adopted strategy in drug development. Fc regions can be modified through amino acid substitutions and glycoengineering, resulting in enhanced or reduced effector functions, preferential binding to FcR subtypes, or pH-dependent binding to FcRns.

Understanding the mechanisms associated with community assembly can contribute to explaining the formation and maintenance of biodiversity patterns. In this study, we used the line transect method to survey breeding birds along the three major rivers of the Nandu River, Changhua River and Wanquan River on Hainan Island, south China. The patterns of community assembly were subsequently assessed by integrating functional and phylogenetic diversity, whereas environmental factors and interspecific competition intensity were incorporated to determine whether community assembly in these rivers is driven by environmental filtering or interspecific competition.
