Article Abstract

We report a case of a young male who presented with acute limb ischemia after sport. With no prior history of disease, a non-infective endocarditis of the native aortic valve was diagnosed. After surgical valve replacement, the patient suffered from acute myocardial ischemia under phenprocoumon therapy. Anti-coagulant monitoring was subsequently changed to Factor II analysis after a rare Factor VII deficiency and prothrombin mutation (G20210A) was diagnosed.

Marantic Endocarditis of the Aortic Valve Associated With Lymphoma.

JACC Case Rep

July 2025

Medical Sciences Research Center, University Center for the Development of Alto Vale, Rio do Sul, Brazil; Regional Alto Vale Hospital, Rio do Sul, Brazil. Electronic address:

Background: Marantic endocarditis (ME) is a noninfectious valvular condition characterized by friable vegetations that result in platelet thrombi, often associated with advanced malignancies.

Case Summary: A 56-year-old woman admitted with asthenia, weight loss, dyspnea, and fever. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a vegetative lesion on the ventricular side of the bicuspid aortic valve and computed tomography showed mediastinal mass.

Background: Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis is a rare complication of prothrombotic states such as neoplasms that can cause valvular dysfunction and life-threatening complications. Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis usually affects the left-sided valves; however, only a minority of cases involving the tricuspid valve have been reported in medical literature.

Case Presentation: The current report describes trivalvular involvement by nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis in a 54-year-old Azeri female patient with metastatic colorectal carcinoma.

Aortic root allograft reoperations.

J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

August 2024

Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Heart, Thoracic, and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to examine the outcomes and risks associated with aortic root allograft reoperations, comparing data from before and after a previous study in 2006.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 602 patients over 33 years, focusing on reoperation causes, techniques used, and their respective morbidity and mortality rates.
  • The findings indicate that reoperations can be performed with low risks, with radical explant yielding outcomes similar to aortic valve replacement, suggesting surgeons should not hesitate to use allografts due to the risks of reoperation.

Antineutrophil Cytoplasm Antibody-Associated Vasculitides Valvular Impairment: Multicenter Retrospective Study and Systematic Review of the Literature.

J Rheumatol

December 2022

A. Dechartres, MD, PhD, Sorbonne Université, INSERM, Institut Pierre Louis d'Epidémiologie et de Santé Publique, AP-HP, Hôpital Pitié Salpêtrière, Département de Santé Publique, Paris, France.

Objective: While myocardial impairment is a predictor of poor prognosis in antineutrophil cytoplasm antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAV), little is known about valvular involvement. This study aims at describing the clinical presentation, management, and outcome of endocarditis associated with AAV.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective study in centers affiliated with the French Vasculitis Study Group.

Adult-onset Still's disease can develop valve lesions. Since AOSD may complicate valvular lesion, differentiation of endocarditis in patients with AOSD is required.
