A simple and efficient way to synthesize peptide-containing silicone materials is described. Silicone oils containing a chosen ratio of bioactive peptide sequences were prepared by acid-catalyzed copolymerization of dichlorodimethylsilane, hybrid dichloromethyl peptidosilane, and Si(vinyl)- or SiH-functionalized monomers. Functionalized silicone oils were first obtained and then, after hydrosilylation cross-linking, bioactive polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based materials were straightforwardly obtained. The introduction of an antibacterial peptide yielded PDMS materials showing activity against Staphylococcus aureus. PDMS containing RGD ligands showed improved cell-adhesion properties. This generic method was fully compatible with the stability of peptides and thus opened the way to the synthesis of a wide range of biologically active silicones.

Hypothesis: Liquid-liquid encapsulation enables rapid wrapping of liquid core droplets using liquid interfacial layer(s) floating on a host liquid bath, but is conventionally limited to shell-forming liquids lighter than the host bath and suffers from uncontrolled lateral spreading of the interfacial layer. We hypothesize that introducing a simple hydrophobic loop at the air-host liquid interface will (i) anchor denser interfacial liquids by interfacial pinning, circumventing the density constraint, and (ii) confine lateral spread, allowing thicker films to form from the same volume of the interfacial layer and improving process control.
Experiments: Encapsulation experiments were performed using two hydrophobic loops placed one at a time at the surface of deionized water or surfactant-laden aqueous baths.

A 12-year-old male neutered miniature Schnauzer underwent computed tomography of the head for evaluation of a sublingual mass. The dog had prior bilateral pars plana vitrectomies with silicone oil tamponade and endolaser retinopexy for treatment of retinal detachment. On evaluation of the computed tomographic images, the vitreous chambers contained a large volume of smoothly marginated hyperattenuating material with a mass-like appearance, consistent with silicone oil.

Rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRDs) with inferior retinal breaks (IRBs) pose significant surgical challenges, lacking a universally accepted treatment standard. Heavy silicone oils (HSOs), specifically Densiron® 68 and Densiron XTRA, have emerged as promising endotamponade agents because of their specific gravity, which is greater than that of water, allowing effective tamponade in the inferior retina. Unlike earlier HSO formulations, these newer variants show reduced rates of intraocular inflammation while maintaining favorable anatomical outcomes, even when compared with concomitant scleral buckle (SB) use; however, their usage remains limited, particularly in the U.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of emulsified silicone oil on trabecular outflow resistance using an in vitro perfusion model of human and porcine anterior segments. F4H5, an approved washout for emulsified silicone oil in the posterior segment, was evaluated as a potential rescue treatment.
Methods: Seventeen porcine and 15 human anterior segments were dissected and clamped into an in vitro perfusion model.

Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of three-port, bimanual technique for direct perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL)-silicone oil (SO) exchange in avoiding retinal re-detachment and shortening the surgical duration in 23-gauge (23 G) pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for the treatment of advanced proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) complicating primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).
Methods: A Retrospective, comparative, consecutive, single-center study was conducted. Fifty-one eyes of 51 patients diagnosed with RRD complicated by PVR at the severe C stage, according to the standardized grading system, were retrospectively reviewed over a 3-year period.
