Introduction: The mechanism by which weakness develops in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) is still unclear. In this study we investigated the maximum force of single muscle fibers from patients with IIMs.
Methods: Permeabilized single muscle fibers from patients with IIMs and healthy controls were subjected to contractility measurements. Maximum force and specific force production (maximum force normalized to fiber size) and fiber type were determined for each isolated fiber.
Results: A total of 178 fibers were studied from five patients with IIMs and 95 fibers from four controls. Specific force production was significantly lower in the IIM group for all fiber types.
Discussion: The findings from this exploratory study suggest that weakness in IIMs may, in part, be caused by dysfunction of the contractile apparatus. These findings provide a basis for further studies into the mechanisms underlying weakness in IIMs.

This study quantitatively evaluated the adsorption performance of natural bentonite for removing three dye classes-cationic (Basic dye: BEZACRYL RED GRL), anionic (Reactive dye: AVITERA LIGHT RED SE), and non-ionic (Disperse dye: BEMACRON BLUE HP3R) from synthetic textile wastewater. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted under varying conditions of contact time (15-90 min), adsorbent dosage (20-60 g L⁻), pH (4 and 12), and temperature (25-100 °C), with dye concentrations quantified by UV-Vis spectroscopy. This study presents a straightforward and rapid method for preparing graphene aerogel by integrating a sodium alginate (SA)-metal ion crosslinking system, a bubble template, and an osmotic dehydration process. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were dispersed into the solution crosslinked by SA and metal ions, leading to rapid gelation of GO under ambient conditions. To minimize structural damage to the porous network caused by water molecules during the drying process, an osmotic dehydration technique was employed as an auxiliary drying method.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are among the most effective methods for industrial wastewater treatment, but their applications to remove trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) are hampered by a lack of "selectivity". Here, an AOP was established using Cr(III) to activate periodate (PI) (Cr(III)/PI system) realizing rapid TrOCs removal, in which 2 μM tetracycline hydrochloride was completely degraded within 8 min (with 29 μM Cr(III) and 30 μM PI, pH 8). Mechanism analysis revealed the positive effect of Cr(III) complexation on enhancing both the efficiency and selectivity of TrOCs removal.
