Serial laboratory testing is common, especially in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Such repeated testing is expensive and may even harm patients. However, identifying specific tests that can be omitted is challenging. The search space of different lab tests is large and the optimal reduction is hard to determine without modeling the time trajectory of decisions, which is a nontrivial optimization problem. In this paper, we propose a novel deep-learning method with a very concise architecture to jointly predict future lab test events to be omitted and the values of the omitted events based on observed testing values. Using our method, we were able to omit 15% of lab tests with <5% prediction accuracy loss. Although the application is specific to repeated lab tests, our proposed framework is highly generalizable and can be used to tackle a family of similar business decision making problems.

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability globally, with survivors at high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and post-stroke dementia. Statins, while widely used for their lipid-lowering effects, also possess pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory, endothelial-stabilizing, and neuroprotective actions, which may offer added benefit in AIS management. This article synthesizes emerging evidence on statins' dual mechanisms of action and evaluates their role in reducing recurrence, improving survival, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Postdiction is a perceptual phenomenon where the perception of an earlier stimulus is influenced by a later one. This effect is commonly studied using the 'rabbit illusion', in which temporally regular, but spatially irregular, stimuli are perceived as equidistant. While previous research has focused on short inter-stimulus intervals (100-200 ms), the role of longer intervals, which may engage late attentional processes, remains unexplored.

Background: Existing research fails to address the complex nature of nonspecific chronic lower back pain (cLBP ) despite its detrimental effect on economic, societal, and medical expenditures.
Objectives: We developed a nurse-led, mobile-delivered self-management intervention-Problem-Solving Pain to Enhance Living Well (PROPEL-M)-and evaluated its usability, feasibility, and initial efficacy for South Korean adults with nonspecific cLBP.
Methods: This study was composed of two phases: (a) lab and field usability testing for a gamified mobile device application; and (b) a pilot study employing a one-arm pre-test and post-test design among adults aged 18-60 years with nonspecific cLBP.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of combining the Padua score with D-dimer levels for identifying lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis with alteplase.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed clinical data from 632 AIS patients who received alteplase treatment at our hospital between September 2019 and October 2023. After applying strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 172 patients were included in the analysis: 35 patients in the DVT group and 137 patients in the non-DVT group.
Background: To improve the molecular diagnostic yield for Aspergillus spp. from respiratory samples, we developed and evaluated a new DNA extraction method directly from respiratory samples combined with in-house Aspergillus real-time PCR.
Methods: We developed a method using beads and resin, where a sample is centrifuged to separate the supernatant and pellet.
