This study aimed to investigate the effects of a rhythm-motor dual task intervention on cognitive and gait control for older adults in relation to fall prevention. Ten healthy older adults participated in a rhythm-motor dual task intervention and 10 participated in the control group. The intervention group received 16 30-min intervention sessions for 8 weeks. During the intervention sessions, participants engaged in walking or bimanual tapping as a primary motor task with concurrent rhythm tasks including playing instruments and rhythmic chanting or singing. At pretest and post-test, measures of cognition, balance/mobility, and gait were administered. A significant difference between groups was found for part B of the Trail Making Test (TMT-B) measure that involved executive control of attention. Also, changes in the gait ratio in the dual task condition of walking while playing an instrument were significantly different between groups. The findings in this study support the use of the rhythm-motor dual task intervention for increasing available cognitive resources and improving gait control, which are critical factors in fall prevention.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 16 weeks of functional versus dual-task training on aspects of pain in older women with chronic nonspecific low back pain.
Methods: This randomized clinical trial included 38 participants aged 60 to 79 years divided into 2 groups: functional training (FT) and dual-task training (DT). We assessed pressure pain threshold (PPT), temporal summation of pain, conditioned pain modulation (CPM), trunk instability, isometric strength, and endurance of trunk muscles before and 16 weeks after training.

Measurable neuromotor control deficits during functional task performance could provide objective criteria to aid in concussion diagnosis. However, many tools which measure these constructs are unidimensional and not clinically feasible. The purpose of this study was to assess the classification accuracy of a machine learning model using features measured by a clinically feasible movement-based assessment system (Mizzou Point-of-care Assessment System (MPASS) between athletes with and without concussion.

Prior researches on global-local processing have focused on hierarchical objects in the visual modality, while the real-world involves multisensory interactions. The present study investigated whether the simultaneous presentation of auditory stimuli influences the recognition of visually hierarchical objects. We added four types of auditory stimuli to the traditional visual hierarchical letters paradigm:no sound (visual-only), a pure tone, a spoken letter that was congruent with the required response (response-congruent), or a spoken letter that was incongruent with it (response-incongruent).

Limiting cognitive resources negatively impacts motor learning, but its cognitive mechanism is still unclear. Previous studies failed to differentiate its effect on explicit (or cognitive) and implicit (or procedural) aspects of motor learning. Here, we designed a dual-task paradigm requiring participants to simultaneously perform a visual working memory task and a visuomotor rotation adaptation task to investigate how cognitive load differentially impacted explicit and implicit motor learning.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and magnitude of dual-task (DT) difficulties and the discriminative ability of three questionnaires evaluating perceived DT difficulties: the Dual-Tasking Questionnaire (DTQ), Dual-Task Screening-List (DTSL), and Dual-Task-Impact on Daily-life Activities Questionnaire (DIDA-Q).
Design: Multicenter, cross-sectional study SETTING: Persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) and healthy controls (HC) were recruited from 7 multiple sclerosis centers across 6 countries (Belgium, Chile, Italy, Israel, Spain, and Turkey).
Participants: A total of 540 participants: 175 with mild disability (mean EDSS: 2.
