Optical imaging of retinal hemodynamic function is an important part of ophthalmologic research. Development and inventing of imaging devices and data analysis methods are both just in progress. The current study innovatively implements two blind source separation (BSS) techniques (i.e. spatial Principal Component Analysis - sPCA; and spatial Independent Component Analysis - sICA) in application of an automatic detection and segmentation of a distinct Optic Disc (OD) areas with different hemodynamic properties from a simultaneous binocular video-ophthalmoscopic records. Both methods detected 3 different spatial patterns mostly symmetric over both eyes stable and reproducible over investigated participants, i.e. central Spontaneous Vessel Pulsations (SVPs), inner OD intensity pulsations and other OD pulsations. Dynamics of all mentioned patterns has a periodic character with similar main frequency (possibly corresponding to subject-specific heart rate) but shifted phase decreasing patterns' mutual high cross-correlations. The sICA estimates a higher rate of phase shifts than sPCA.

Purpose: To analyze the difference in objective and subjective photic phenomena following virtual implantation of three different presbyopia-correcting diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) designs.
Methods: The study was conducted at JENVIS Research Germany. A prospective cross-over and double-masked trial design was used.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, such as Empagliflozin, are antidiabetic drugs that reduce glucose levels and have emerged as a promising therapy for patients with heart failure (HF), although the exact molecular mechanisms underlying their cardioprotective effects remain to be fully elucidated. The EmDia study, a randomized, double-blind trial conducted at the University Medical Center of Mainz, has confirmed the beneficial effects of Empagliflozin in HF patients after both one and twelve weeks of treatment. In this work, we aimed to assess whether changes in lipid profiles driven by Empagliflozin use in HF patients in the EmDia trial could assist in gaining a better understanding of its cardioprotective mechanisms.

Background: A high onchocerciasis disease burden and a low coverage of community-directed treatment with ivermectin (CDTI) have been observed in many parts of South Sudan. In the Maridi County, CDTI was re-introduced in 2017 and various interventions implemented to improve coverage.
Methods: Through successive community-based surveys, we investigated whether an onchocerciasis awareness campaign and a switch from annual to bi-annual distribution of ivermectin in Maridi County increased CDTI coverage.

Background: Within public online forums, patients often seek reassurance and guidance from the community regarding postoperative symptoms and expectations, and when to seek medical assistance. Others are using artificial intelligence in the form of online search engines or chatbots such as ChatGPT or Perplexity. Artificial intelligence chatbot assistants have been growing in popularity; however, clinicians may be hesitant to use them because of concerns about accuracy.

Purpose: To report on the real-world experience of using intravitreal pegcetacoplan for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Design: Retrospective interventional case series.
Methods: Eyes with symptomatic GA secondary to AMD were treated with 15mg of intravitreal pegcetacoplan and participated in an ongoing prospective swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) imaging study.
