Background: Patient-centered care models allow for the ability to tailor treatment to outcomes of importance to patients.
Objective: The purposes of this study were to (1) define patient subgroups based on outcomes of importance; (2) determine whether patient subgroups based on outcomes of importance differed in demographic, clinical, and psychological measures; and (3) determine whether outcome domain subgroups differed in treatment responses.
Design: This was a prospective, longitudinal observational study.
Methods: This was a secondary analysis of the Optimal Screening for Prediction of Referral and Outcome study. Patients in the development phase completed the Patient Centered Outcome Questionnaire (PCOQ) and questionnaires related to negative mood, fear avoidance, and positive coping, as well as region-specific questionnaires. Patients in the validation cohort completed the PCOQ, measures of treatment satisfaction and region-specific questionnaires at 4 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year. A hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis identified profiles based on importance outcomes as determined by the PCOQ. Analysis of variance and chi-squared assessed baseline subgroup differences in demographics, psychological factors, and clinical outcomes. Repeated-measure analysis of variance considered subgroup differences in outcomes longitudinally.
Results: Cluster analysis identified 3 subgroups: (1) "Multiple Outcome Domains Important" subgroup characterized by high importance attached to improvement in all domains, (2) "Pain and Function Outcomes Important" subgroup characterized by high importance attached to improvement in pain and interference, and (3) "Pain Important" subgroup characterized by greatest importance attached to improvement in pain.
Limitations: Our sample included patients from outpatient physical therapy and may not be representative of patients in other settings.
Conclusion: Patients can be characterized by the importance attached to improvement in outcome domains. The identified subgroups differed in baseline measures as well as response to treatment.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of the full-thickness palatal graft technique (FTPGT) and the coronally advanced flap with subepithelial connective tissue graft (CAF + SCTG) in achieving complete root coverage (CRC) in single gingival recessions (GR).
Methods: Forty healthy patients with a single RT1 GR were randomized into two groups: 20 treated with CAF + SCTG and 20 with FTPGT. Baseline and 12-month measurements of GR, keratinized tissue width (KTW), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival thickness (GT) were recorded.

A sensitive electrochemical glucose biosensor using ZrO₂@CNTs nanocomposite was developed for real-time metabolism monitoring for athletes. The nanocomposite was prepared by a simple ultrasound-assisted technique, and the glucose oxidase (GOx) was covalently immobilized to improve the biorecognition ability. CNTs treated with acid served as a highly conductive framework, and ZrO₂ nanoparticles can provide structural stability and catalytic performance, thus showing synergistic enhancement of electron transfer kinetics and enzyme loading capacity.

Total laryngectomy (TLE) results in the permanent separation of the respiratory and digestive tracts, requiring all airway interventions to occur exclusively via a neck stoma. Although airway obstruction in post-laryngectomy patients is uncommon, it can rapidly become fatal without prompt recognition and understanding of the altered anatomy. Here, we report the case of a patient with a recent TLE for squamous cell carcinoma, who presented to a rural Emergency Department (ED) in acute respiratory distress.

Seed dispersal through wind was historically considered a random process; however, plants can influence their dispersal through non-random seed detachment or abscission. Dandelion seeds facing the wind tend to abscise before those facing downwind, yet the mechanism that supports this has remained unclear. In this study, we develop a hyaluronic-tannic acid (HA-TA) hydrogel loaded with Cu nanoparticles attach to MXene (MXene@Cu) to explore its potential as a targeted breast cancer treatment. The MXene@Cu nanosheets exhibit activity in depleting glutathione (GSH) and inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) through the Fenton-like reaction. They can down-regulate the activity of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), leading to the accumulation of lipid peroxides (LPO) and inducing ferroptosis in tumor cells.
