Article Abstract

Three diverse supramolecular compounds, {[3-pmpmd]}(1), {H[3-pmpmd]·2NO}(2), {H[3-pmpmd]·2tbb}(3), (where 3-pmpmd was N,N'-bis(3-pyridylmethyl)pyromellitic diimide; tbb was tertiary butyl benzoic acid) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyses, and X-ray single-crystal structure analysis. The co-crystal anions affect their structural diversity. Compound 1 is a 1D stairway chain structure by perpendicular π⋯π interactions of pyromellitic diimide and the neighboring pyridine rings. Compound 2 is a typical 1D ladder chain structure by hydrogen bond of nitrate arranged in a parallel array. Compound 3 is a 1D zigzag chain structure of one 3-pmpmd and two tbb by parallel π⋯π interactions and hydrogen bond interactions. Thermal stabilities and fluorescence properties of all compounds were investigated. The solution of compound 2 in DMF can fluorescence sense for iodide ions by remarkably quenching fluorescence intensity.

Large language models (LLMs) have been successfully used for data extraction from free-text radiology reports. Most current studies were conducted with LLMs accessed via an application programming interface (API). We evaluated the feasibility of using open-source LLMs, deployed on limited local hardware resources for data extraction from free-text mammography reports, using a common data element (CDE)-based structure.

The traditional structural transformation narrative emphasizes intersectoral labour reallocation out of agriculture, ignoring whether workers exit agrifood value chains or merely migrate within them. Here we decompose multiregional input-output table data into industry- and country-specific annual labour value-added estimates by final consumer market segment, matching them with industry-specific employment data to estimate average worker compensation. Using data covering most of the global economy over 1993-2021, we report ten stylized facts about labour reallocation amid structural transformation.

We built a custom device to subject an antibody fragment A33 Fab to controlled stress conditions that combined pH, temperature, agitation, and LED-based light exposure in polypropylene microplates; to simulate the real-world challenges it may encounter during storage and transportation and to evaluate the key degradation routes in Fab formulations. We also explored the addition of Tween 80 as a surfactant and the impact of plate surface siliconisation. Monomer loss and fragmentation was monitored by size-exclusion chromatography, aggregate formation determined by changes in hydrodynamic radius in DLS, and chemical modifications identified through intact mass analysis by LC-MS, and N-terminal sequencing.

Using the stable synthetic analogue 3-aza-dehydroxylysyl-phosphatidylglycerol (3adLPG), the putative role of native staphylococcal LPG in inhibiting the antibiotic daptomycin from binding to its target phosphatidylglycerol (PG), was investigated with respect to interfacial interactions between these lipids, daptomycin, and calcium ions. The influence of lipid monolayer/bilayer composition and interfacial ion concentrations upon the structure and integrity of model membranes were probed after daptomycin challenge using a combination of surface x-ray scattering techniques and fluorescence assays. In models representing the membrane composition of the daptomycin susceptible phenotype consisting of PG/3adLPG in a 7:3 M ratio, calcium ions drive the formation of two separate phases; Ca cross-linked PG/PG pairs and PG/3adLPG ion pairs.

Inspired by "the composition of catechol and amine groups in the adhesive proteins" of marine mussel and "brick-and-mortar" structure of nacre, we use polydopamine (PDA) as "mortar", graphene oxides (GO) nanosheets as "brick", and Pd ions as interfacial reinforcer, to fabricate nacre-like Pd enhanced PDA functionalized GO membranes (Pd@PDA/GO) with vacuum filtration-assisted assembly method. Meanwhile, in situ reduced Pd nanoclusters by PDA chains were well constrained within the resultant Pd@PDA/GO artificial nacre composites. Good interfacial adhesion with dense packing of the GO nanosheets was further confirmed with sub-nano level microstructure characterization by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy.
