Use of family readiness programs (FRPs) by military families is not well understood. This work uses the Gelberg-Andersen Behavioral Model to identify characteristics of Reserve and National Guard (R/NG) couples who access FRPs. Data are from Operation: SAFETY, a study of R/NG soldiers and partners. Logistic regression models examined odds of accessing FRPs based on predisposing, enabling, and need factors. Greater length of military service, greater presence of non-military social ties, and civilian partner reports of adequate support during deployment were associated with higher likelihood of accessing FRPs. Results provide information on FRP utilization and may help inform outreach efforts.

Surgical resection remains the frontline intervention for cancer; however, postoperative tumor recurrence and wound infection remain critical unmet challenge in surgical oncology. Herein, an all-in-one nanowired hydrogel (V-Hydrogel) is developed through a facile one-step assembly employing enzyme-mimetic VO nanowires and bactericidal crosslinker THPS. The V-Hydrogel reserves the glutathione peroxidase-, peroxidase-, catalase-, and oxidase-mimetic enzymatic activities derived from vanadium oxide nanowires, thereby exhibiting efficient tumor-specific catalytic therapy.

Trees harbor large stores of nonstructural carbohydrates, some of which are quite old (> 10 yr), yet we know little of how these older stores may be used for woody growth. Crucially, the use of old carbohydrates during cellulose biosynthesis could confound climate reconstructions that rely on tree ring stable isotope ratios. We analyzed tree-ring cellulose ΔC and δC in earlywood of two pine species from montane forests in western North America using tree rings produced during the radiocarbon bomb pulse (1966-1980).

Aims: For many years, visual assessment has been the mainstay of detecting obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) by stress perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance (S-CMR). Recently, fully automated quantitative assessment of myocardial blood flow (MBF) has been introduced. The value of MBF quantification in patients with coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) is unknown.
