Human speech perception is multisensory, integrating auditory information from the talker's voice with visual information from the talker's face. BOLD fMRI studies have implicated the superior temporal gyrus (STG) in processing auditory speech and the superior temporal sulcus (STS) in integrating auditory and visual speech, but as an indirect hemodynamic measure, fMRI is limited in its ability to track the rapid neural computations underlying speech perception. Using stereoelectroencephalograpy (sEEG) electrodes, we directly recorded from the STG and STS in 42 epilepsy patients (25 F, 17 M).

Background/aims: In cytomegalovirus-induced anterior uveitis (CMV-AU), frequent recurrences are the primary cause of glaucomatous damage and corneal endothelial cell loss, yet factors influencing such recurrences remain unclear. Our study aims to investigate the impact of glaucoma surgery (GS) on recurrence rate in patients with CMV-AU.
Methods: This retrospective study included 149 immunocompetent patients with CMV-AU treated with antiviral medication following PCR confirmation.

Rationale: Radial artery spasm (RAS) is a common complication during transradial cerebral angiography (TRA), but currently, the optimal prevention strategy is not well established. Papaverine has anti-vasospasm, sedative and analgesic effects. However, the efficacy of papaverine in preventing RAS during TRA remains unknown.

The identification of deceased individuals is essential in forensic investigations, particularly when primary identification methods such as odontology, fingerprint, or DNA analysis are unavailable. In such cases, implanted medical devices may serve as supplementary identifiers for positive identification. This study proposes deep learning-based methods for the automatic detection of metallic implants in scout images acquired from computed tomography (CT).

Objective: Societal guidelines recommend vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for atrial fibrillation patients with recent biological valve implantation, but the safety and efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in this setting remain uncertain, especially in the early postoperative period. This substudy of the Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Study (LAAOS) III trial aimed to compare thromboembolic and bleeding outcomes in patients discharged on VKAs versus DOACs after bioprosthesis implantation or mitral valve repair.
Methods: A total of 2,645 patients were included, with 461 discharged on DOACs and 2184 on VKAs.
