With the increasing strategies aimed at repressing shuttle problems in the lithium-sulfur battery, dissolved contents of polysulfides are significantly reduced. Except for solid-state LiS and LiS, aggregated phases of polysulfides remain unexplored, especially in well confined cathode material systems. Here, we report a series of nanosize polysulfide clusters and solid phases from an atomic perspective. The calculated phase diagram and formation energy evolution process demonstrate their stabilities and cohesive tendency. It is interesting to find that LiS can stay in the solid state and contains short S chains, further leading to the unique stability and dense structure. Simulated electronic properties indicate reduced band gaps when polysulfides are aggregated, especially for solid phase LiS with a band gap as low as 0.47 eV. Their dissolution behavior and conversion process are also investigated, which provides a more realistic model and gives further suggestions on the future design of the lithium-sulfur battery.

Objective: Anesthesia during the surgery impairs immune systems. Ketamine is an anesthetic with immune protective effects. This study intended to investigate the effect of a ketamine-involved anesthetic regimen on cellular immunity and inflammatory cytokines in patients who undergo laparoscopic colon cancer surgery.

Background: Chintamani village, Chikkaballapura district, Karnataka, India was found to possess high aquifer uranium concentrations. Geologically, Chintamani village is located on bedrock that is rich in elements like potassium (K) that naturally contain high levels of radioactive elements, such as uranium and thorium, due to the presence of alkali-feldspar granites and gneisses. Aquifer depletion has caused the concentration of these elements in groundwater to increase over time, posing a potential health hazard to the residents of Chintamani village.

This study developed medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA)-enriched specialty fats for hand-grasp pancakes through enzymatic interesterification (EIE) using a soybean oil/fully hydrogenated coconut oil/fully hydrogenated palm oil blend (6:1:3 w/w/w) as the substrate. Orthogonal optimization achieved 99.85 % randomization efficiency under mild conditions (70 °C, 12 % lipase load, 4 h).

Changes in waxed dry cheese during the ripening process, over periods of 7 and 30 days, were analysed using near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR) and mid-infrared spectroscopy (FT-MIR) by attenuated total reflection (ATR). FT-NIR was employed to determine the proximate composition of the cheese (protein, fat, moisture, total solids, and salt content), identifying changes directly associated with the ripening process. FT-MIR data were used to identify spectral bands associated with chemical changes occurring during the cheese maturation.

Current colorimetric sensing arrays for antioxidant detection often struggle with discrimination due to cross-reactive signals from individual nanozymes. These signals are typically modulated by external factors such as pH or chromogenic substrates, offering limited kinetic and mechanistic diversity. To overcome this, we present a novel triple-channel colorimetric sensing array utilizing two distinct single-atom nanozymes (Cu SA and Fe SA) and one dual-atom nanozyme (CuFe DA).
