Article Abstract

is the leading bacterial cause of diarrhea worldwide. A capsular polysaccharide (CPS) conjugate vaccine is under development and requires determination of the valency. However, distribution of CPS types circulating globally is presently poorly described. We aimed to determine whether CPS type distribution in Peru differs from that in other endemic regions. We used a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the detection of CPS encoding genes capable of distinguishing all 35 CPS types on isolates in two prospective communities based studies conducted in cohorts of children less than 59 months of age in Peru. Results showed that CPS type HS4 complex was the most prevalent, followed by HS3 complex and HS15. Differences in CPS type for symptomatology were not statistically significant. Most subjects demonstrated repeated infections over time with different CPS types, suggesting that CPS types may confer of a level of homologous protective immunity. In this dataset, some differences in CPS type distribution were observed in comparison to other low-middle income countries. Further studies need to be conducted in endemic areas to increase our knowledge of CPS type distribution and guide vaccine development.

Background: Peltopepimut-S is a therapeutic vaccine, which induces specific expansion of both CD4+helper and CD8+cytotoxic T-cells against human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) E6/E7 oncoproteins.

Patients And Methods: In a randomized phase 2 trial, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of peltopepimut-S plus cemiplimab compared with cemiplimab alone as first-line or second-line therapy in recurrent/metastatic HPV16-positive head and neck cancer. The primary efficacy endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) by an independent review (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors version 1.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly due to extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenemases (CPs), poses a critical threat to global health. This study aimed to characterize the molecular epidemiology, resistance profiles, and genomic features of ESBL- and CP-producing and (ESBL/CP-Ec/Kp) isolates from a Spanish hospital (2020-2024) and explore links to environmental reservoirs like white storks foraging at a nearby landfill. A total of 121 clinical Ec/Kp isolates (55 ESBL-Ec, 1 CP-Ec, 35 ESBL-Kp, 17 CP-Kp, 13 ESBL+CP-Kp) underwent phenotypic testing, PCR, and whole-genome sequencing (WGS).

Background: Child protective services (CPS) rely on referrals of child maltreatment to address abuse and neglect. CPS referral rates vary geographically in the type of maltreatment reported and community characteristics.

Objective: This study examined the relationship between CPS referral rates and community characteristics, based on reporter type and geography.

Coordination Polymers Driven by Urea-Diisophthalate Linkers: From Hydrothermal Assembly and Structural Diversity to Catalytic Applications.

September 2025

MINDlab: Molecular Design & Innovation Laboratory, Centro de Química Estrutural, Institute of Molecular Sciences, Departamento de Engenharia Química, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Av. Rovisco Pais, 1049-001 Lisbon, Portugal.

Eight new metal(II) coordination polymers (CPs) were assembled via hydrothermal methods from an unexplored urea-diisophthalate linker, 5,5'-(carbonylbis(azanediyl))diisophthalic acid (Hcada) and different N-donor auxiliary ligands (phen: 1,10-phenanthroline; bipy: 2,2'-bipyridine; Hbiim: 2,2'-biimidazole; bpa: bis(4-pyridyl)amine; dpey: 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene; or dpea: 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethane). The obtained products were identified as [Mn(μ-Hcada)(phen)(HO)]·2HO (), [Mn(μ-cada)(phen)(HO)]·2HO (), [M(μ-cada)(bipy)(HO)]·3HO (M = Mn () and Cd ()), [Cd(μ-cada)(Hbiim)]·2HO (), [Hbpa][Mn(μ-cada)(HO)]·3HO (), [Co(μ-cada)(μ-dpey)(HO)]·2HO (), and [Mn(μ-cada)(μ-dpea)(HO)]·2HO (). These CPs were analyzed by standard methods, including powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing structures ranging from 1D chains () and 2D layers ( and -) to 3D networks ( and ) with different topologies.
