Article Abstract

Experiments show that 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) undergoes facile C1-C1' bond cleavage under action of triflic acid at temperatures above 0 °C to give mainly 2-naphthol along with oligomeric material. CASSCF and MRMP//CASSCF computations have demonstrated unambiguously that this unusual mode of scission of the biaryl bond can occur in the C1,C1'-diprotonated form of BINOL via a mechanism involving homolytic cleavage prompted by the intramolecular electrostatic repulsion. These findings also provide insights into the mechanism of a comparatively easy thermal cleavage of BINOL, implying the intermediacy of its neutral diketo form.

Influence of 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) incorporated experimental cleaners on the bonding performance of saliva-contaminated zirconia ceramic.

Clin Oral Investig

February 2022

Department of Cariology and Operative Dentistry, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, 1-5-45 Yushima, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, 113-8510, Japan.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy of experimental cleaners containing 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) on the saliva decontamination of ceramic and their influence in restoring zirconia's adherence to resin cement.

Materials And Methods: Four hundred sixty alumina-blasted zirconia specimens were categorized into saliva-contaminated and uncontaminated groups which were treated with ceramic primer (P), experimental cleaner 1 (C1), C1 followed by P (C1P), experimental cleaner 2 (C2), and C2 followed by P (C2P). Stainless-steel rods were then attached to the specimens using PanaviaV5 cement (Kuraray Noritake Dental; Tokyo, Japan).

1,1'-Biisoquinolines are a class of bidentate nitrogen donor ligands in the heterocyclic diimine family. This review briefly discusses their properties and the key synthetic pathways available and then concentrates upon their coordination behaviour. The ligands are of interest as they exhibit the phenomenon of atropisomerism (hindered rotation about the C1-C1' bond).

NMR relaxation dispersion studies have shown that Watson-Crick G-C and A-T base pairs in duplex DNA exist in dynamic equilibrium with their Hoogsteen counterparts. Hoogsteen base pairs form through concurrent rotation of the purine base about the glycosidic bond from an anti to a syn conformation and constriction of the C1'-C1' distance across the base pair by ∼2 Å to allow Hoogsteen type hydrogen bonding. Owing to their unique structure, Hoogsteen base pairs can play important roles in DNA recognition, the accommodation, recognition, and repair of DNA damage, and in DNA replication.

Bent Singlet Cyclobutylcarbene: Computed Geometry, Properties, and Product Selectivity of a Nonclassical Carbene.

J Org Chem

Institute of Organic Chemistry , University of Vienna, Währinger Strasse 38 , A-1090 Vienna , Austria.

Ab initio computations of cyclobutylcarbene (-CHCH) were performed using the UMP4(fc)/6-311++G(2df,2p)//UMP2(full)/6-311++G(d,p) theoretical model. The carbene's most striking feature is its :CH-group. It is markedly toward the elongated C1'-C2' bond in the singlet ground-state but not in the triplet state, which is at least 1.
