Article Abstract

The present study investigated the effects of different concentrations of extract on the germinative cells and digestive processes of semi-engorged females. For this experiment, 150 ticks were divided into five groups (30 individuals each). The animals were immersed for 5 min in different concentrations of the extract, distilled water, or ethanol 50%/DMSO 1%, dried, and kept in biological oxygen demand incubator for 7 days. The alterations were associated with the size of germinative cells and yolk granules; presence, size, and location of vacuoles in the cytoplasm of germinative cells; nuclear modifications in the germinative cells; damages to the nucleus and cytoplasm of the midgut generative cells; size of digestive cells; number of captured blood elements; accumulated digestive residues and digestive vacuoles in the digestive cells cytoplasm; and the number and distribution of proteins and polysaccharides in all the cells of both organs. The concentrations used in this study prevented an efficient and complete blood digestion by the midgut epithelial cells of the treated animals, resulting in the absence of the necessary nutrients to maintain the physiological events in the ectoparasites. In advanced stages, This can lead the ectoparasite to death. The germinative cells were highly impaired and probably not able to advance developmental stages (I-V) or complete vitellogenesis to be released during ovulation, which would prevent the females from originating a new individual. Thus, it can be concluded that the effects of are similar to those caused by chemical products widely recognized as effective to control ticks.

We report 35 patients who had a leukemic phase of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma/high-grade B-cell lymphoma with MYC and BCL2 rearrangements, also known as double-hit lymphoma (DHL). There were 23 men and 12 women with a median age of 57 years (range, 29-82). Eight patients had an established DHL diagnosis and later developed a leukemic phase of disease and 27 presented with DHL and a leukemic phase of disease at initial diagnosis.

The regulation of follicular (F) and germinal center (GC) immune reactivity in human lymph nodes (LNs), particularly during the acute stages of viral infection, remains poorly understood: We have analyzed lung-draining lymph nodes (LD-LNs) from COVID-19 autopsies using multiplex imaging and spatial transcriptomics to examine the immune landscape with respect to follicular immune reactivity. We identified three groups of donors based on the Bcl6 prevalence of their Reactive Follicles (RFs): RF-Bcl6no/low, RF-Bcl6int, and RF-Bcl6high. A distinct B/TFH immune landscape, associated with increased prevalence of proliferating B-cell and TFH-cell subsets, was found in RF-Bcl6high LD-LNs.

B cells are critical components of the adaptive immune system that proliferate and differentiate within the secondary lymphoid organs upon recognition of antigens and engagement of T cells. Traditional two-dimensional (2D) cell cultures fall short of replicating the intricate structures and dynamic evolution of three-dimensional (3D) environments found in lymphoid organs, prompting the development of more physiologically pertinent models. Our approach employs -hexanoyl glycol chitosan (HGC) coated ultra-low attachment (ULA) lattice plates to cultivate a 3D co-culture of CD40L-expressing MS5 stromal cells and naïve B cells derived from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of healthy human donors.
