Fluorescent textile fibres (FTFs) are widely used in many industrial fields. However, in addition to fibres with good fluorescence, fibres with excellent colour controllability, structural stability and appropriate mechanical strength still need to be developed. In this work, CdTe/alginate composite FTFs are prepared by taking advantage of the interactions between CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) and alginate macromolecules via a wet-spinning machine with a CaCl₂ aqueous solution as the coagulation bath. CdTe NCs were chemically fixed in the fibre due to the interactions among surface ligands, macromolecules and coagulators (calcium ions), which ensured the excellent dispersity and good stability of the fibres. Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between NCs in the fibre was found to be restricted, which means that the emission colour of the fibres was totally controllable and could be predicted. Other properties of alginate fibres, such as flame retardance and mechanical strength, were also well preserved in the fluorescent fibres. Finally, FTFs showed good selectivity toward trace Hg ions over other metallic ions, and the detection could be identified by the naked eye.

Introduction: The definition of Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) does not take into account a preclinical phase during which the thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is increased, prior to optic nerve atrophy, reducing the chances of visual recovery.
Objectives: Search for a metabolomic signature characterizing this preclinical phase and identify biomarkers predicting the risk of LHON onset.
Methods And Results: The blood and tear metabolomic profiles of 90 asymptomatic LHON mutation carriers followed for one year will be explored as a function of RNFL thickness and compared to those of a healthy control.

This study investigates how hydrophobic and hydrophilic modifications at the C-terminus of the base peptide, KFEFEFKFK (KbpK), affect the hydrogel macroscopic properties. By the incorporation of phenylalanine (F, hydrophobic) and lysine (K, hydrophilic) residues, four variants, KbpK-K, KbpK-F, KbpK-KF, and KbpK-FK, were designed and evaluated. pH-concentration phase diagrams and Fourier transform infrared confirmed clear links showing how peptide hydrophobicity and charge influence β-sheet formation and macroscopic phase behavior.

In this paper, lignin was chemically extracted from fibers and modified with branched polyethyleneimine (BPEI) and the resulting samples were applied for the adsorption of two anionic dyes; Acid red 183 (AR183) and Acid blue 25 (AB25) from aqueous suspension. Analytical characterization methods including SEM, FT-IR, TGA/DTG, and XRD were used to analyze the studied samples. The images of the extracted lignin displayed a rough feature.

Purpose: To characterize a no b-wave (nob) mouse model of congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) caused by a Grm6 variant that disrupts photoreceptor-to-bipolar cell signaling. Additionally, we aim to evaluate the efficacy of gene therapy in restoring visual function.
Methods: The nob mouse was generated through selective breeding to regenerate the nob phenotype.

Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)-based complex topological copolymers have attracted a great deal of attention for their unique electrical and optical properties. In this contribution, the P3HT-based Janus fibers with controlled lengths were innovatively prepared by sequential crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) of poly(--butylstyrene)--polyisoprene--poly(3-hexylthiophene) (PBS--PI--P3HT) triblock copolymer, cross-linking of the interlayer PI region, and dissociation of fibers in good solvent. The comprehensive characterizations showed that the PBS/P3HT Janus fibers have nearly half the width of PBS--PI--P3HT fibers and fiber lengths close to or slightly shorter than those of PBS--PI--P3HT fibers, indicating that the Janus fibers with adjustable lengths could be prepared in a large window range.
