A new paramagnetic ligand, betaDTDA, and its coordination complex with Fe(hfac)2 are reported (betaDTDA = 4-(benzothiazol-2'-yl)-1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl; hfac = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato-). The neutral radical betaDTDA is the first dithiadiazolyl ligand designed to include an electropositive sulphur moiety outside the thiazyl heterocycle, increasing the capacity for supramolecular, structure-directing electrostatic contacts and enabling new pathways for magnetic exchange. The Fe(hfac)2(betaDTDA) complex is composed of a hs-Fe(ii) center with the three bidentate ligands arranged about the ion in a distorted octahedral 6-coordinate environment. The magnetic properties of crystalline Fe(hfac)2(betaDTDA) are consistent with strong antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling between the metal and ligand moments, giving rise to a well-defined Stotal = 3/2 ground state that is the only thermally populated state below 40 K. Below 4 K, this complex exhibits slow relaxation of the magnetization detected by ac susceptibility measurements consistent with a single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour.

Subthalamic deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) provides unprecedented spatiotemporal precision for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), allowing for direct real-time state-specific adjustments. Inspired by findings from optogenetic stimulation in mice, we hypothesized that STN-DBS can mimic dopaminergic reinforcement of ongoing movement kinematics during stimulation. To investigate this hypothesis, we delivered DBS bursts during particularly fast and slow movements in 24 patients with PD.

We propose a model that is able to reproduce the type-II ultrafast demagnetization dynamics observed in 2D magnets. The spin system is coupled to the electronic thermal bath and is treated with atomistic spin dynamics, while the electron and phonon heat baths are described phenomenologically by coupled equations via the two-temperature model. Our proposed two-temperature model takes into account the effect of the heated substrate, which for 2D systems results in a slow demagnetization regime.

Background: Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) is a rare malignant tumor of the female reproductive system with atypical clinical symptoms and slow progression.
Case: A 44-year-old female with a history of intermittent severe dysmenorrhea, previous laparoscopic myomectomy, and uterine artery embolization (UAE) presented with rapidly enlarging pelvic masses. Imaging revealed uterine masses suggestive of leiomyomas, although an adnexal origin could not be excluded.

Social learning, a hallmark of human behavior, entails integrating other's actions or ideas with one's own. While it can accelerate the learning process by circumventing slow and costly individual trial-and-error learning, its effectiveness depends on knowing when and whose information to use. In this study, we explored how individuals use social information based on their own and others' levels of uncertainty.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a new Schiff base ligand (HL), derived from 2-picolylamine and 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde. Its reaction with Ni(NO)·6HO and Ln(NO)·HO (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy) in the presence of triethylamine affords a carbonato-bridged family of heterobimetallic NiLn complexes: [NiLn(L)(L')(μ-CO)(NO)]·MeOH·HO (). During the complexation reaction, ligand HL undergoes an oxidation, followed by C-C coupling to generate a secondary ligand (HL').
