In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnO-NPs) and also chitosan‑zinc oxide (CS-ZnO-NPs) nano-hybrid were synthesized by a rapid ultrasound assisted co-precipitation method. The morphology, chemical bonding, crystal structure, UV absorption, toxicity and antibacterial properties of the CS-ZnO-NPs and ZnO-NPs were characterized. The FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) micrographs and XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis revealed that the used technique led to the preparation of homogeneous, ultra-thin (thickness of 20-30 nm) and highly pure ZnO sheets for the both kinds of nanoparticles. The obtained results also demonstrated a superior performance of CS-ZnO-NPs hybrid rather than ZnO-NPs in terms of antibacterial activity, cell viability and UV absorption. It was deduced that the designed biomineralization technique was a very fast and successful strategy to provide a ZnO hybrid with elevated bacterial growth inhibition and bio-safety. Furthermore, the experimental data of antibacterial analyses were compared with the curves obtained from modified Gompertz model and good accordance was observed.

Egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) has emerged as a promising alternative to monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) due to its facile extraction, higher yield, and greater tolerance to organic solvents. This work developed a selective IgY antibody against bongkrekic acid (BA) and isobongkrekic acid (IsoBA), the lethal toxins produced by Burkholderia gladioli pv. Cocovenenans (BGC), which led to severe food poisoning incidents and resulted in casualties.

Background: Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) stands among the most toxic naturally occurring substances, with its acute toxicity characterized by the induction of acute hepatic necrosis, hemorrhage, and even fatal outcomes, thereby posing a profound threat to human health. Contamination of AFB1 in food commodities can arise at multiple stages throughout the production cycle, including cultivation, storage, and processing. This contamination cascade permeates the entire food supply chain, encompassing primary agricultural products as well as a diverse range of processed food items.

Developing three-dimensional composite materials with high adsorption capacity, environmentally friendliness, and facile processability is essential for removing organic dyes from wastewater and enhancing ecological protection. In this study, a Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction was employed to introduce multiple double bonds into the benzene ring of dopamine hydrochloride monomer, resulting in dopamine triacrylamide (DAHAM) compounds. Dopamine triacrylamide crosslinked chitosan (CTS)/polyacrylic acid (PAA) cryogels (CTS/PAA@DAHAM) were prepared to achieve efficient and specific adsorption of anionic dyes.

The misuse of nitrofuran antibiotics (NFAs) poses serious risks to food safety and human health. Thus, it is urgent to establish a rapid and sensitive method for detecting NFAs. In this work, a dual-emission fluorescent material (TbUDPA) was developed by embedding Tb in a Zr-MOF for rapid and sensitive detection of four NFAs, and it successfully detected nitrofurazone (NFZ) residues in real food samples with high recovery rates.

The synthesis of [-BH] from [-BH] based on redox principles has been developed but is still limited. Using different oxidants often leads to various by-products and affects yields. This paper presents a facile and efficient method for synthesizing [-BH] by directly using the alkali metal salt of [-BH] as the precursor.
