This paper describes a simple procedure to determine the local thickness of a thin anisotropic layer. It also discriminates between isotropic and anisotropic regions, provided a smoothness hypothesis on the refractive index distribution is satisfied. The procedure is based on the analysis of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) data acquired in an imaging mode. The general arrangement of the setup is the Kretschmann configuration. We show, on an azobenzene modified polymer layer, good agreement between atomic force microscopy and optical measurements of thickness variation.

Background: To evaluate the peripheral vitreoretinal abnormality (PVA) and its correlation with the risk of malignant glaucoma (MG) in nanophthalmos with secondary angle closure glaucoma (NSACG).
Methods: This prospective case series included 47 NSACG eyes with axial length (AL) < 21 mm from 25 patients. PVA was defined as a hyperreflective echo at the peripheral vitreoretinal region under ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
Objectives: To investigate whether quantitative retinal markers, derived from multimodal retinal imaging, are associated with increased risk of mortality among individuals with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), the most severe form of diabetic retinopathy.
Design: Longitudinal retrospective cohort analysis.
Setting: This study was nested within the AlzEye cohort, which links longitudinal multimodal retinal imaging data routinely collected from a large tertiary ophthalmic institution in London, UK, with nationally held hospital admissions data across England.

Introduction: To evaluate how stepwise enlargement in the mesial root canals of mandibular first molars affect shaping outcomes and irrigant dynamics.
Methods: The shaping ability and irrigant flow patterns in mesial canals of mandibular first molars enlarged with ProTaper Next instruments (25/.06v, 30/.

The Envelope protein (E protein) of SARS-CoVs 1 and 2 has been implicated in the viral budding process and maintaining the spherical shape of the virus, but direct evidence linking the protein to long-range membrane deformation is still lacking. Computational predictions from molecular simulation have offered conflicting results, some showing long-range E-induced membrane curvature and others showing only local deformations. In the present study, we determine the mechanism driving these deformations by modulating the degree of hydrophobic mismatch between protein and membrane.

We assembled all cases of chronic gastritis sent by surgical pathologists to hematopathology due to concern for low-grade lymphoma over a 4-year interval. The cases were ultimately classified as reactive (n=37), atypical (n=9), or lymphoma (n=18).
