Article Abstract

Motivation: It is important to characterize individual relatedness in terms of familial relationships and underlying population structure in genome-wide association studies for correct downstream analysis. The characterization of individual relatedness becomes vital if the cohort is to be used as reference panel in other studies for association tests and for identifying ethnic diversities. In this paper, we propose a kinship visualization tool to detect cryptic relatedness between subjects. We utilize multi-dimensional scaling, bar charts, heat maps and node-link visualizations to enable analysis of relatedness information.

Availability And Implementation: Available online as well as can be downloaded at http://shiny-vis.qcri.org/public/kinvis/.

Supplementary Information: Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online.

Visualization support for remote collaborative aneurysm treatment planning.

Purpose: Cerebral aneurysms are blood-filled bulges that form at weak points in blood vessel walls, and their rupture can lead to life-threatening consequences. Given the high risk associated with these aneurysms, thorough examination and analysis are essential for determining appropriate treatment. While existing tools such as ANEULYSIS and its web-based counterpart WEBANEULYSIS provide interactive means for analyzing simulated aneurysm data, they lack support for collaborative analysis, which is crucial for enhancing interpretation and improving treatment decisions in medical team meetings.

Phosphatidic acid (PA) regulates lipid homeostasis and vesicular trafficking, yet high-affinity tools to study PA in live cells are lacking. We identified the lipin-like sequence of Nir1 (PILS-Nir1) as a candidate PA biosensor based on structural analysis of Nir1's LNS2 domain. Using liposome-binding assays and pharmacological and genetic manipulations in HEK293A cells expressing fluorescent PILS-Nir1, we found that while PILS-Nir1 binds PA and PIP2in vitro, only PA is necessary and sufficient for membrane localization in cells.

Eye tracking has the potential to be used as a meaningful measure of the consequences of vision impairment (VI), yet a comprehensive test battery is lacking. In this study, we sought to evaluate the feasibility and validity of a test battery of eye movements as a tool to measure visual performance in individuals with VI. A test battery including fixation stability, smooth pursuit, saccades, free viewing, and visual search was administered to 46 athletes with VI and 10 control participants.

Purpose: To evaluate intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation of a non-diffractive extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL after myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) without historical data.

Methods: In this consecutive case series, patients who had undergone lens surgery with implantation of a non-diffractive EDOF IOL after myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) at the Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany, were included. Preoperative assessments included biometry and tomography using Scheimpflug technology (Pentacam; Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH).

Fiber-optic bronchoscopy (FOB) plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of various pulmonary diseases by offering direct visualization of the airways and enabling targeted sampling for microbiological and histopathological evaluation. This study aimed to assess the clinical, radiological, microbiological, and histopathological profiles of patients undergoing FOB. A retrospective analysis of 103 participants who underwent the procedure over one year was conducted.
