An expedient strategy for the synthesis of polycyclic small molecules is described. The method first joins together two achiral building blocks (an enyne and an aldehyde or a ketone) using an alkynyl halo-Prins protocol. Then, in the same reaction vessel, acidic conditions initiate a cationic cascade that includes a stereospecific halo-Nazarov electrocyclization and a diastereoselective Friedel-Crafts allylation. The entire sequence forms three carbon-carbon bonds and a carbon-halogen bond, generating halocyclopentene adducts in one pot from simple precursors. The process occurs with excellent diastereocontrol, providing highly functionalized polycycles containing three tertiary or quaternary stereogenic centers in a linear array. It is even possible to install three contiguous all-carbon quaternary centers using this method.

Hemorrhagic control remains a serious concern in emergency medicine and combat trauma management, where achieving rapid hemostasis significantly impacts patient survival outcomes. While conventional interventions including direct manual compression and tourniquet application demonstrate clinical efficacy in routine scenarios, their limitations become apparent when managing catastrophic hemorrhage or anatomically complex injuries. Mineral-based hemostatic agents, particularly clay-derived rapid hemostats, have emerged as a promising therapeutic modality that synergizes ancestral wound management practices with contemporary material engineering.

Highly effective antibacterial wound dressings are essential for improving the treatment of infected wounds. This study constructs a nitrogen-doped carbon-based silver single-atom/nanoparticle composite carrier (2% Ag-NC) and anchors it in a cationic guar matrix (CG) to develop a smart dressing with synergistic antibacterial-healing-promoting function. Benefiting from the doped Ag, the triple enzyme catalytic efficiencies of oxidase, peroxidase, and glutathione peroxidase are enhanced.

Respiratory fistulas remain clinically challenging in endoscopic treatment due to the absence of convenient non-compressive sealing materials. Here, we developed an in situ self-fused powder adhesive (PP powder) to address this limitation. This material integrates the adaptive conformability of hydrogel microparticles with the pressure-resistant sealing capability of bulk hydrogels via water-triggered self-assembly.

A CFOH-catalysed tandem cyclization of -alkynylnaphthols and -quinone monoketals is disclosed. The CFOH catalyst activates alkynylnaphthol to generate an all-carbon tetrasubstituted VQM by nucleophilic addition to quinone monoketal (Michael addition). Furthermore, the CFOH catalyst triggers -quinone monoketal to generate an electrophilic oxocarbenium cation to be captured by -alkynylnaphthol regiospecifically, resulting in the formation of an all-carbon tetrasubstituted VQM, followed by an intramolecular cyclization to afford a series of 1-(3-arylbenzofuran-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ols.

Demyelination of peripheral nerve injury is a vital cause of neuropathic pain. Schwann cells play an important role in supporting and maintaining the removal and regeneration of myelin debris from neuronal axons in the peripheral nervous system. Creating a good immune microenvironment would promote the Schwann cells to repair the injured nerve and reverse the allodynia of neuropathic pain.
