Article Abstract

Objectives: Many community-based and hospital-based studies across the world have yielded contradictory results regarding association of positive serology and epilepsy. The present study was planned to analyze disease burden of epilepsy in rural community of North India and its association with exposure to in this part of the world.

Methods: A door-to-door screening survey was carried out in the rural community using a validated questionnaire for epilepsy by trained field workers, which was finally confirmed by trained neurologists. The risk factors for epilepsy and for predisposing infections were also enquired. The results were compared with an equal number of age- and sex-matched healthy controls enrolled from the same community. Serologic evaluation was carried out to detect antibodies against .

Results: A total of 41,973 persons from the rural community in 49 villages were enrolled in the study. Two hundred and eleven persons were confirmed to be suffering from active epilepsy, resulting in a crude prevalence of 5 per 1000 population. More than 50% of people with epilepsy were in the second or third decade of life. The prevalence of antibodies to was similar in people with epilepsy (13.7%; 29 of 211 individuals) and controls (9.95%; 21 of 211 individuals). Of the 151 persons with epilepsy, who underwent CT scan, 34 people (22.3%) had evidence of inflammatory granuloma, thereby confirming high incidence of this infestation in rural Northern India.

Significance: Our study does not support the association between epilepsy and exposure to in rural Northern Indian population.

Objective: To assess the feasibility of implementing ultrasound screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in primary care by examining the prevalence of AAA and associated risk factors in northern Lleida, where no prior data exist and cases are detected opportunistically.

Design: Cross-sectional retrospective prevalence study derived from a pilot implementation of ultrasound AAA screening as a routine complementary test in six rural primary care centres over a 12-month period (March 2022 - March 2023).

Setting: Northern area of the province of Lleida, specifically the regions of Alt Urgell, Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà and Alta Ribagorça.

Despite China being the world's largest producer of non-ferrous metals, a comprehensive understanding of heavy metal pollution from this industry is still lacking. This study examines the spatial coupling between heavy metal (Cd, Hg, As, Pb, and Cr) emission hotspots in China's non-ferrous metal mining industry (NFMMI), non-ferrous metal smelting and processing industry (NFMSPI) and environmental media- sensitive hotspots (water body density, cultivated land concentration, and atmospheric PM2.5) to characterize the multi-media pollution risks.

Michelle S. Harris, DNP, FNP-C, RN, CWOCN, is the Director of Clinical Practice, Sutter Care at Home, Sutter Health, Roseville, California.

Sutter Care at Home (SCAH), part of the not-for-profit Sutter Health integrated system, serves Northern California's Valley and Bay Areas through 14 licensed home health and nine hospice agencies, many of which reach rural communities. Like many home health organizations, SCAH has faced a persistent registered nurse (RN) shortage, challenging its ability to maintain care delivery standards. In response, executive leadership launched a 12-month Registered Nurse New Graduate Residency Program to recruit and support newly graduated RNs.

Purpose: Initial studies identified the Perceive, Recall, Plan and Perform Assessment (PRPP-A) as a cognitive assessment with potential for culturally safe use with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with neurocognitive impairments in the Northern Territory of Australia. This study examines construct and concurrent validity of the PRPP-A.

Methods: Data were collected from a medical record review.
