The Canadian federal government has proposed significant revisions to the way its patented medicines price regulator assesses the excessiveness of medication prices that are to take effect in 2019. The changes have the potential to decrease Canada's attractiveness as a market for innovative medicines. The objective of this analysis was to compare the number of new drugs given regulatory approval in Canada between 2002 and 2017 with the number in New Zealand and, of those approved in both countries, to compare approval dates. Of 374 new drugs approved in Canada between 2002 and 2017, 139 (37.2%) were approved in Canada alone - the percentage increased from 20.2% to 48.2% for drugs approved in 2002-2006 and 2012-2017. Two hundred and thirty-five drugs (62.8%) were approved in both countries of which 182 (77.4%) were approved first in Canada with a median delay of 10 months before approval in New Zealand. Due to lapsed approvals and a lack of availability, less than 70% of the 235 drugs were accessible in New Zealand in mid-2018. Tight drug cost-containment saves money but at the expense of manufacturers either not seeking regulatory approval for new therapies or only doing so after approval in many other countries.

Yet, limited research has focused on these combinations, as they differ across different profiles of youth and their implications during the major life transitions of emerging adulthood. Addressing this gap, the present longitudinal person-centered study assesses the nature, stability, predictors (stressful life events, sex), and outcomes (affect, attitude toward life, physical symptoms) of coping profiles during this period.

This study aimed to investigate the age-related alterations in mesial roots of mandibular first molar in terms of root canal curvature values, dentin thickness, interorifice distance, deviation from apical foramen, and location of apical foramen using a three-dimensional curvature measurement method and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Forty-five mesial roots of mandibular first molars from three age groups (Group 1: ≤ 30 years, Group 2: 31-59 years, Group 3: ≥ 60 years) were scanned using micro-CT. The central axis of each mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canal was analyzed using cubic B-spline curves to calculate canal curvature.

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability globally, with survivors at high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and post-stroke dementia. Statins, while widely used for their lipid-lowering effects, also possess pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory, endothelial-stabilizing, and neuroprotective actions, which may offer added benefit in AIS management. This article synthesizes emerging evidence on statins' dual mechanisms of action and evaluates their role in reducing recurrence, improving survival, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Beech leaf disease (BLD) poses a serious threat to the health of beech forests throughout the northeastern USA and Canada. Caused by invasive nematodes, BLD first appeared in 2012 in Ohio and has rapidly spread eastward. We investigated the effects of BLD on leaf and litter chemistry and leaf litter decomposition rate from four infected beech stands in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
