To review musculoskeletal disabilities and rehabilitation in adults with thalidomide embryopathy (TE), the authors reviewed the literature related to musculoskeletal disability, quality of life (QOL) and rehabilitation intervention in adults with TE, obtained through a PubMed search, and their experience in clinical practice with Japanese individuals. Through literature search, 25 studies were included for this review. Literature search results and the authors' experiences revealed that, in adults with TE, upper limb disabilities included neuropathy, mainly due to carpal tunnel syndrome; finger pain due to tenosynovitis; and symptoms caused by osteoarthritis, mainly in the shoulders.

Osthole, a coumarin derivative with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has demonstrated promising therapeutic potential in protecting against ototoxicity. This study investigated the protective effects of osthole through both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. A high-content screening of 1505 natural compounds in HEI-OC1 cells identified osthole as the most effective compound in alleviating gentamicin-induced cellular damage.

We report a case of a 61-year-old immunosuppressed man with rheumatoid arthritis on etanercept and past intravenous drug use who presented with intractable hiccups, an unreported feature of cervical necrotizing fasciitis (CNF). He was initially diagnosed with a viral syndrome, but later developed severe sepsis with neck swelling, dysphagia, and ligneous induration. The absence of skin changes, probably secondary to etanercept-induced immunosuppression, hindered diagnosis.
