Article Abstract

Objective: To examine the degree to which paternal variables of age, body mass index (BMI), and sperm parameters affect vitrified donor oocyte IVF outcomes. Previous studies examining the impact of male partner characteristics on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) have found conflicting results. Concerns are rising over the potential effects of paternal factors, such as age and obesity, on pregnancy and child health. Frozen donor oocyte IVF offers an ideal model to study these effects.

Design: Retrospective chart review.

Setting: Private fertility clinic.

Patient(s): Nine hundred forty-nine recipients undergoing transfer of blastocyst embryo(s) from a vitrified oocyte donor bank between 2008-2015.

Intervention(s): None.

Main Outcome Measure(s): Implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate, rate of low birth weight singleton infants (≤2500 g), and preterm deliveries (PTD) of singleton infants (<37 wk).

Results: After adjusting for covariates known to affect oocyte donation cycle success, male age, BMI and sperm parameters were not associated with differences in IVF outcomes. There were higher PTD rates for men ≥51 years and BMI ≥35 kg/m, however, these were not significant after adjustment. There were no differences in rates of low birth weight infants with men >35 years or BMI >25 kg/m. Lastly, there were no differences in rates of PTD or low birth weight infants with abnormal sperm parameters.

Conclusions: Neither advancing male age, elevated BMI, nor poor sperm quality were associated with outcomes in frozen donor oocyte IVF cycles in this study. Intracytoplamic sperm injection and "oocyte quality" likely mitigate some of the effects of male variables on outcomes following cryopreserved oocyte donation.

Zygotes are used to create genetically modified animals by electroporation using the CRISPR-Cas9 system. Such zygotes in rats are obtained from superovulated female rats after mating. Recently, we reported that in vivo-fertilized zygotes had higher cryotolerance and developmental ability than in vitro-fertilized zygotes in Sprague Dawley (SD) and Fischer 344 rats.

Research Objective: Among singleton live births resulting from donor oocyte cycles, do perinatal outcomes differ between single (SET) and double embryo transfers (DET)?

Methods: We utilized a retrospective cohort of 610 recipients who had a singleton livebirth following nonidentified vitrified donor oocyte IVF cycle from a fertility clinic in the southeast US, 2008-2016. Perinatal outcomes included gestational age and birth weight. Preterm birth was defined as <37 weeks and low birth weight was defined as <2500 grams.

Introduction: embryo production (IVP) in the domestic cat () remains highly variable owing to intrinsic reproductive traits and the absence of fully standardized protocols.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed 108 IVP replicates produced under a single protocol (2020-2024) to quantify the effects of season, donor age and methodological parameters on oocyte yield and embryo development.

Results: Winter proved the most favourable season for both oocyte recovery and blastocyst formation, whereas spring, despite lower initial yields, achieved the greatest post-selection oocyte retention.

This study investigates the narratives of egg donation (ED) in Taiwan and transnational contexts. Although commercial ED is prohibited in Taiwan, legally fixed compensation remains relatively high (USD 3000). Internationally, ED is a profitable segment of the fertility industry, driving cross-border donor recruitment.

To mitigate the detrimental effects of heat stress (HS) on the production efficiency of Wagyu cattle oocyte pick-up (OPU) - in vitro fertilization (IVF), this study conducted a 20-day folic acid (VB9) supplementation trial in Wagyu cattle under HS conditions. Using a staged repeated measurements design, OPU-IVF production procedures were performed on Wagyu cattle (12-month-old, n=5 out of 20 total) at six time points during the supplementation period (Days 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20). ELISA-based biochemical assays were employed to evaluate the effects of VB9 supplementation on HS-related indicators in serum and follicular fluid of Wagyu cattle under HS conditions.
