Severe , such as hyperinfection syndrome, carries a high mortality risk. Even with appropriate treatment, patients may experience infectious complications and failure of therapy. Currently, there are no Food and Drug Administration-approved parenteral therapies available for treatment in patients who develop gastrointestinal complications from hyperinfection, including small bowel obstruction. A veterinary form of ivermectin is available as a subcutaneous injection, although current literature in humans is limited. We report on the successful treatment of two surviving immunocompromised patients with hyperinfection syndrome after prompt recognition and initiation of veterinary subcutaneous ivermectin therapy.

Understanding the immune pathogenesis mechanisms of leishmaniasis is crucial for developing effective therapeutic interventions. In this study, we investigated the effect of ivermectin (IVE) on the expression of transcription factors GATA-binding protein 3 (GATA-3), T-bet, and ROR-γt as well as wound healing Leishmania infection. Leishmania promastigotes were subcutaneously inoculated into the tail base of BALB/c mice ( = 10 per group) who later received phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), IVE, Glucantime, or a combination of IVE and Glucantime as soon as wounds developed, approximately three weeks' postinfection.

Strongyloides hyperinfection can be challenging to diagnose and treat. Although it is typically described in cases of secondary immunodeficiency, it has not previously been reported in a case of inborn error of immunity. Diagnosis via microscopy can be time-consuming and challenging, and serology results may be negative in the setting of hypogammaglobulinemia.

can complete its entire life cycle within the human host, allowing infections to persist for years. While it may cause chronic, often asymptomatic infection in immunocompetent individuals, it can lead to life-threatening hyperinfection syndrome or disseminated disease in those who are immunocompromised. We report a case of hyperinfection syndrome in a heart transplant recipient who had tested negative on conventional serologic screening as part of his pretransplant workup three years prior to transplantation.

We report a case of strongyloidiasis hyperinfection, diagnosed on a BALF in a 46-year-old woman of senegalese origin with no recent travel history. The patient initially presented to the emergency department with worsening chronic lower back pain, asthenia and a 10-day history of general deterioration.

An experimental investigation was conducted from December 2023 to June 2024 at the beef farm of Haramaya University. The bulls were divided into two groups: one group received ivermectin treatment, while the other acted as a control. The SUMIVER brand of ivermectin was administered subcutaneously at 1 ml per 50 kg of body weight.
