N4-methylcytosine (4mC) is an important DNA modification in prokaryotes, but its relevance and even its presence in eukaryotes have been mysterious. Here we show that spermatogenesis in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha involves two waves of extensive DNA methylation reprogramming. First, 5-methylcytosine (5mC) expands from transposons to the entire genome.

Transformer-based language models are successfully used to address massive text-related tasks. DNA methylation is an important epigenetic mechanism, and its analysis provides valuable insights into gene regulation and biomarker identification. Several deep learning-based methods have been proposed to identify DNA methylation, and each seeks to strike a balance between computational effort and accuracy.

Background: Directed DNA methylation on N6-adenine (6mA), N4-cytosine (4mC), and C5-cytosine (5mC) can potentially increase DNA coding capacity and regulate a variety of biological functions. These modifications are relatively abundant in bacteria, occurring in about a percent of all bases of most bacteria. Until recently, 5mC and its oxidized derivatives were thought to be the only directed DNA methylation events in metazoa.

The synthesis and characterization of the dinucleating ligands 1,2-bis(2-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)phenoxy)ethane (L1) and 1,2-bis(2-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1, 10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)phenoxy)hexane (L2) and their dinuclear complexes [Pt(L1)Cl] (1) and [Pt(L2)Cl] (2) and the in vitro cytotoxicity of the complexes against HeLa, HepG2, and MCF-7 cell lines are reported. Ligand L1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with the space group Pbca. The complexes 1 and 2 undergo aquation following first-order kinetics.
