Abstract: Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a technique to identify the viscoelastic moduli of biological tissues by solving the inverse problem from the displacement field of viscoelastic wave propagation in a tissue measured by MRI. Because finite element analysis (FEA) of MRE evaluates not only the viscoelastic model for a tissue but also the efficiency of the inversion algorithm, we developed FEA for MRE using commercial software called ANSYS, the Zener model for displacement field of a wave inside tissue, and an inversion algorithm called the modified integral method. The profile of the simulated displacement field by FEA agrees well with the experimental data measured by MRE for gel phantoms. Similarly, the value of storage modulus (i.e., stiffness) recovered using the modified integral method with the simulation data is consistent with the value given in FEA. Furthermore, applying the suggested FEA to a human liver demonstrates the effectiveness of the present simulation scheme.

Ideally, in a smoke-free generation, children could practice sports in a smoke-free setting. This article studied the prevalence of smoking at football clubs in two countries. An audit at 45 German and 116 Dutch clubs measured smoking prevalence at three places.

Purpose: To investigate associations among expanded field swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) biomarkers and the development of tractional retinal detachment (TRD) in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).
Methods: Patients with PDR without TRD at baseline were imaged with SS-OCTA. Quantitative and qualitative OCTA metrics were independently evaluated by two trained graders.

Surfactant-enhanced spontaneous imbibition is a proven method of enhancing oil recovery from shale reservoirs. However, a significant knowledge gap concerning the impact of clay minerals on surfactant-enhanced imbibition in shale reservoirs remains. Therefore, this study first analyzed the mineral composition and pore structure of the shale reservoirs.

Objectives: Left ventricular vortex dynamics play a crucial role in cardiac function but are significantly altered by mitral valve diseases or surgical interventions. Such hemodynamic changes may lead to maladaptive intracardiac vortices, potentially triggering pathways associated with progressive left ventricular remodeling and thrombosis. This study assessed left ventricular hemodynamics under both physiological and pathological conditions using a biohybrid in vitro platform, aiming to analyze the impact of these conditions on cardiac function.

Voltage-dependence gating of ion channels underlies numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes, and disruption of normal voltage gating is the cause of many channelopathies. Here, long timescale atomistic simulations were performed to directly probe voltage-induced gating transitions of the big potassium (BK) channels, where the voltage sensor domain (VSD) movement has been suggested to be distinct from that of canonical Kv channels but remains poorly understood. Using a Core-MT construct without the gating ring, multiple voltage activation transitions were observed at 750 mV, allowing detailed analysis of the activated state of BK VSD and key mechanistic features.
