Background: Iron continues to be linked to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders including HIV-1 associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). People with HIV-1 who use opioids have a higher risk of developing HAND, and HIV-1 proteins and opioids disrupt endolysosome iron homeostasis, increase reactive oxygen species (ROS), and cause neural cell death. Endolysosomes are subcellular acidic organelles that regulate iron metabolism and redox homeostasis.

Ferric oxides play a critical role in transforming organic contaminants within anaerobic aquaculture sediments; however, their effect on the removal of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) remains unexplored. This study revealed that the addition of FeO significantly promoted microbial Fe(III) reduction, SMX degradation, and methanogenesis by enhancing metabolic activity and facilitating electron transfer. While nutrient supplementation similarly improved SMX removal, it notably increased ARG abundance, unlike FeO, which effectively suppressed ARGs.

Iron overload is a risk factor for osteoporosis due to its oxidative toxicity. Previous studies have demonstrated that an excessive amount of iron increases osteocyte apoptosis and receptor activator of nuclear factor κ-B ligand (RANKL) production, which stimulates osteoclast differentiation in vitro. However, the effects of exogenous iron supplementation-induced iron overload on osteocytes in vivo and its role in iron overload-induced bone loss are unknown.

Background: Developmental iron deficiency (ID) is associated with long-term cognitive and affective behavioral impairments in humans. Preclinical studies have shown that developmental ID has short- and long-term effects on gene regulation. Prenatal choline supplementation partially rescues early-life ID-induced cognitive deficits in adult male rats.

( parasite that obtains the iron it needs for its own metabolism from the host-cell iron pool. In this work, we aimed to investigate if iron supplementation or deficiency affected the course of infection. Eighty mice were divided into four groups, each with 20 animals: Group (I): Uninfected control group.
