Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) is four times higher for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies compared to non-indigenous babies (Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian 2014). Co-sleeping is a culturally valued practice used by many indigenous families however is associated with an increased risk of infant death in hazardous circumstances (Venneman et al. 2012; Blair et al. 2014).

Importance: Black individuals have a twofold higher rate of prostate cancer death in the US compared with the average population with prostate cancer. Few guidelines support race-conscious screening practices among at-risk Black individuals.
Objective: To examine structural factors that facilitate or impede access to prostate cancer screening among Black individuals in the US.

Two major protein recycling pathways have emerged as key regulators of enduring forms of synaptic plasticity, such as long-term potentiation (LTP), yet how these pathways are recruited during plasticity is unknown. Phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate (PI(3)P) is a key regulator of endosomal trafficking and alterations in this lipid have been linked to neurodegeneration. Here, using primary hippocampal neurons, we demonstrate dynamic PI(3)P synthesis during chemical induction of LTP (cLTP), which drives coordinate recruitment of the SNX17-Retriever and SNX27-Retromer pathways to endosomes and synaptic sites.

Background: Gender disparities exist in cardiothoracic surgery (CT), though qualitative investigations are lacking. We aimed to explore the impact of workplace culture on belonging, burnout, and career exit for women in CT.
Study Design: We conducted virtual semi-structured interviews with women cardiothoracic surgeons in practice for ≥5 years across the United States from 9/2024 to 12/2024.

Health literacy (HL) is a fundamental factor in raising health awareness and self-management, especially in contexts with increasingly complicated health systems. Its accurate and culturally appropriate measurement is necessary to support effective medical interventions. Accordingly, we translated the Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ) into Vietnamese and analysed its psychometric properties on the basis of data derived from respondents who completed the translated instrument.

Research carried out by Vanderbilt University's and Medical Center's federally-funded transdisciplinary, highly interactive GetPreCiSe Center in Excellence for ELSI research on genomic privacy-involving over 40 scholars across computer and social sciences, law, and the humanities-is summarized by dividing the work into five categories: (1) the nature of risks posed by collection of genetic data; (2) legal and scientific methods of minimizing those risks; (3) methods of safely increasing the scope of genetic databases; (4) public perceptions of genetic privacy; and (5) cultural depictions of genetic privacy. While this research shows that the risk of unauthorized re-identification is often over-stated, it also identifies possible ways privacy can be compromised. Several technical and legal methods for reducing privacy risks are described, most of which focus not on collection of the data, but rather on regulating data security, access, and use once it is collected.
