Nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dot (N-GQD) nanomaterials conjugated with polyethylenimine (PEI)-polystyrene sulfonate (PSS)-anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (Ab) antibody (N-GQD-PEI-PSS-Ab) demonstrated impressive two-photon properties and stability, signifying that they can serve as an effective two-photon contrast agent in two-photon bioimaging. Furthermore, they provided high intensity, brightness, and signal-to-noise ratios at an ultra-low two-photon excitation (TPE) power level in an observation extending to a deep, three-dimensional depth.

Carbon dots (CDs) represent a new class of nontoxic and sustainable nanomaterials with increasing applications. Among them, bright and large Stokes-shift CDs are highly desirable for display and imaging, yet the emission mechanisms remain unclear. We obtained structural signatures for the recently engineered green and red CDs by ground-state femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy (FSRS), then synthesized orange CDs with similar size but much higher nitrogen dopants than red CDs.

In this study, a MoC-MoO@NCrGO-900 composite catalyst comprising two-dimensional nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (NCrGO) and ultrasmall molybdenum carbide-molybdenum dioxide (MoC-MoO) heterojunctions was synthesized. The optimized catalyst exhibited an outstanding oxidative desulfurization (ODS) performance. Specifically, a model oil containing 4000 ppm sulfur was completely desulfurized within 30 min, with a desulfurization efficiency of 98.

Developing next-generation anodes with high silicon (Si) contents requires thoughtful embedment of Si particles in protective media, mainly carbonaceous materials. However, it has been challenging to simultaneously realize optimal electrical conduction, structural integrity, and low-cost synthesis for advancing Si-carbon materials. In this work, we addressed these challenges by synthesizing a composite, where commercial Si nanoparticles are embedded in a dual carbon framework via a facile solution mixing and annealing process.

Context: This study systematically investigates the growth mechanism of nitrogen-doped graphene in a plasma environment, with a particular focus on the effects of temperature and hydrogen radicals on its structural evolution. The results reveal that, at 3000 K, the formation of nitrogen-doped graphene proceeds through three stages: carbon chain elongation, cyclization, and subsequent condensation into planar structures. During this process, nitrogen atoms are gradually incorporated into the carbon network, forming various doping configurations such as pyridinic-N, pyrrolic-N, and graphitic-N.

In this study, we synthesized a novel three-dimensional nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (3D-NRGO) by integrating a sulfonated polystyrene (PSS) template method with nitrogen doping. The resulting 3D-NRGO was applied as an electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic electrolyte. Owing to the synergistic effect arising from its three-dimensional structure and nitrogen doping, the catalyst demonstrates substantially augmented catalytic current density, a more positive ORR potential, excellent methanol tolerance, and prolonged operational stability.
