Article Abstract

The reaction between a preassembled Cu bimetallic molecular clip with a short intermetallic distance and a series of fully aliphatic cyano-capped ditopic linkers with increasing lengths was investigated. It is shown that, depending on the length of the ditopic linkers, the rational design of unprecedented supramolecular compact metallacycles containing fully aliphatic walls is possible. The specific preorganized molecular arrangement of the molecular clip used favors stabilizing interlinker London dispersion interactions, which allow, as the length of the linkers increases, the selective formation of discrete compact metallacycles at the expense of 1D coordination polymers. The generalizability of this approach was demonstrated by the reaction of fully aliphatic cyano-capped linkers with two other types of preassembled Cu bimetallic molecular clips that also had short intermetallic distances.

New Biodegradable Polyester-Polyurethane Biocompositions Enriched by Urea.

Materials (Basel)

August 2025

Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Bialystok University of Technology, 45C Wiejska St, 15-351 Bialystok, Poland.

Novel polyester-polyurethane polymeric materials were formulated by combining a natural aliphatic polyester, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P3HB), with a synthetic aliphatic polyurethane via melt blending. The resulting fully biodegradable compositions were functionally modified through the incorporation of urea, with the aim of enabling post-consumer utilization of the material residues as nitrogen-rich fertilizers. The fabrication process was systematically established and optimized, focusing on homogeneous blending and processability.

In this study, three new terphenyl-substituted NPN ligands bearing pyridyl groups, two phosphonites and one diaminophosphine, were synthesized and fully characterized. Their coordination chemistry with copper(I) was investigated using CuBr and [Cu(NCMe)]PF as metal precursors, affording six mononuclear Cu(I) complexes, which were characterized using NMR spectroscopy and, in selected cases, single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. The NPN ligands adopt a κ-coordination mode, stabilizing the copper centers in distorted tetrahedral geometries.

A novel, durable heterogeneous magnesium-supported catalyst, IRMOF-3@Di(2-pyridyl) ketone@Mg(II) (Di(2-pyridyl) ketone: Di-2pyk), was effectively synthesized using a convenient approach and fully characterized utilizing chemo-physical analysis techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction analysis, attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, CHN analysis, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements. This metal-organic framework-based nanocatalyst displayed excellent catalytic behaviour in chemoselective hydrogenation of five biomass-based carbonyl compounds of furfural, cinnamaldehyde, levulinic acid, vanillin and citral in addition to a variety of aliphatic, aromatic, and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones at room temperature in water in the presence of sodium borohydride as a mild and safe hydrogen source reagent. The leaching and reusability experiments of this catalyst exhibited stability and reactivity after four runs.

The present study aimed to identify the active chemical compounds, mainly phenolic acids, of and , evaluate the pharmacokinetic properties of their primary compounds, and assess a novel method for the biocontrol of blue mold by evaluating the antifungal activity of both extracts. Gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were utilized to identify the active chemical compounds, mainly phenolic acids. GC illustrated the presence of long-chain aliphatic fatty acids like eicosanoic acid with the formation of oct-1-en-3-ol compounds attached.

Para-phenylenediamines (PPDs) are antioxidants added to tires to protect the rubber. They are released from tire and road wear particles (TRWP) but the extent of their aerobic microbial degradation and the transformation products (TPs) formed are not known. Therefore, aerobic microbial degradation of seven tire-related PPDs, parent compounds as well as known transformation products, was studied for up to 28 days.
