We investigated the effects of sucrose and nano-silver (NAg) on extending the vase life of cut carnation flowers "Edun". Sucrose (pulse treatment) suppressed ethylene production by downregulating the genes that code for its biosynthesis. Relative to the control, however, sucrose significantly promoted xylem blockage on cut stem surfaces and reduced relative fresh weight, antioxidant activity, and cysteine proteinase inhibitor gene () expression. Consequently, the sucrose-treated flowers had shorter vase lives than the control. In contrast, NAg suppressed ethylene production in the petal, prevented xylem blockage in the cut stem surface, and improved all the aforementioned parameters. Therefore, NAg increased flower longevity. The most effective treatment in terms of longevity extension and parameter improvement, however, was the combination of NAg and sucrose. These results suggest that sucrose can suppress ethylene production but does not necessarily extend the vase life of the flower cultivar. The role of NAg in increasing cut carnation longevity is mainly to inhibit xylem blockage rather than suppress ethylene production, and the combined effect of NAg and sucrose is most effective at prolonging cut carnation vase life, likely due to their synergetic effects on multiple modes of action.

The aim of the study was to reduce the chemical fertilizers with microbial inoculant-rich vermicompost, which enhanced the growth, flowering, and soil health of the tuberose crop. A total of six treatments were applied with reducing doses of synthetic fertilizers under a factorial randomized design and replicated thrice. In this study, vermicompost (VC) made from cow dung and vegetable waste utilizing Eisenia foetida and their mixed biomass were enriched with microbial inoculants and assessed for their impact on microbial and enzymatic populations including urease, acid phosphatase activity and dehydrogenase activity in soil, nutrient availability, and tuberose development and flowering.

Purpose: The loss of flower quality after harvesting is a major concern in the floriculture industry. Because cut flower solutions are quickly contaminated with microbes, causing flower damage, they must be modified to enhance and extend the life of the vase.
Methods: Eco-friendly preservative solutions were examined to investigate the efficiency of natural essential oils of eucalyptus, neem and rosemary at concentrations of 200 and 400 mg L each on the biological, physiological, and anatomical traits and vase life of solidago (Solidago canadensis) cut flower.

Daffodils are among the most popular bulbous plants for cut flowers, especially Trumpet cultivars. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in cut daffodil flowers and to determine the response of perianth senescence in cut daffodil flowers in a different way than the corona does and to determine whether the senescence of cut daffodil flowers is correlated with PCD symptoms. During the senescence of cut daffodil flowers, there was an increase in free proline, malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide contents and increased catalase activity.

Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is a fragrant bulbous ornamental plant valued for its aesthetic appeal but constrained by its short postharvest vase life. This study investigated the effects of arginine (Arg) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), applied at concentrations of 1, 5, and 10 µM, on key postharvest traits of tuberose cut flowers. Using a completely randomized design with five replications under controlled conditions, we assessed flower opening, wilting, and abscission alongside antioxidant responses.
