Some insular lizards show a high degree of differentiation from their conspecific mainland populations, like Licosa island lizards, which are described as affected by Reversed Island Syndrome (RIS). In previous works, we demonstrated that some traits of RIS, as melanization, depend on a differential expression of gene encoding melanocortin receptors. To better understand the basis of syndrome, and providing raw data for future investigations, we generate the first de novo transcriptome of the Italian wall lizard. Comparing mainland and island transcriptomes, we link differences in life-traits to differential gene expression. Our results, taking together testis and brain sequences, generated 275,310 and 269,885 transcripts, 18,434 and 21,606 proteins in Gene Ontology annotation, for mainland and island respectively. Variant calling analysis identified about the same number of SNPs in island and mainland population. Instead, through a differential gene expression analysis we found some putative genes involved in syndrome more expressed in insular samples like Major Histocompatibility Complex class I, Immunoglobulins, Melanocortin 4 receptor, Neuropeptide Y and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen.

Although inflammation has been suggested as a promising therapeutic target for major depressive disorder (MDD), uncertainty remains about how to recognise individuals who may benefit from anti-inflammatory treatments. Transcriptomic profiles provide an important tool to identify relevant biological mechanisms associated with response. In this study, we investigate: i) the ability of transcriptomic profiles to predict antidepressant response to anti-inflammatory treatment with minocycline, and ii) the effect of minocycline on transcriptomic profiles based on the antidepressant response.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a key extracellular matrix component of vertebrates, where it mediates cell adhesion, immune regulation, and tissue remodeling through its interaction with specific receptors. Although HA has been detected in a few invertebrate species, the lack of fundamental components of the molecular HA pathway poses relevant objections about its functional role in these species. Mining genomic and transcriptomic data, we considered the conservation of the gene locus encoding for the (XLINK) in marine mussels as well as its expression patterns.

TBC1D22B is a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer (BC). Using complementary proximity-labeling and co-immunoprecipitation proteomics, the TBC1D22B interactome in BC cells is defined, revealing strong enrichment in components of the ER-to-Golgi trafficking machinery, endosomal transport, and adhesion-related pathways. Functional assays, using the Retention Using Selective Hooks (RUSH) system, demonstrate that TBC1D22B inhibits ER-to-Golgi transport in a GAP-dependent manner.
