Calreticulin (CRT) is a well-known "eat-me" signal harbored by dying cells participating in their recognition by phagocytes. CRT is also recognized to deeply impact the immune response to altered self-cells. In this study, we focus on the role of the newly exposed CRT following cell death induction. We show that if CRT increases at the outer face of the plasma membrane and is well recognized by C1q even when phosphatidylserine is not yet detected, CRT is also released in the surrounding milieu and is able to interact with phagocytes. We observed that exogenous CRT is endocytosed by THP1 macrophages through macropinocytosis and that internalization is associated with a particular phenotype characterized by an increase of cell spreading and migration, an upregulation of CD14, an increase of interleukin-8 release, and a decrease of early apoptotic cell uptake. Importantly, CRT-induced pro-inflammatory phenotype was confirmed on human monocytes-derived macrophages by the overexpression of CD40 and CD274, and we found that monocyte-derived macrophages exposed to CRT display a peculiar polarization notably associated with a downregulation of the histocompatibility complex of class II molecules hampering its description through the classical M1/M2 dichotomy. Altogether our results highlight the role of soluble CRT with strong possible consequences on the macrophage-mediated immune response to dying cell.

Background: The risk factors associated with treatment resistance to consolidation durvalumab following chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have not been well established.
Methods: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) were isolated from the pretreatment serum of 73 patients treated with consolidation durvalumab. Isolation was performed using CD9/CD63 antibodies, and EV proteins were identified using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS).

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term functional and anatomical outcomes in patients with tractional lamellar macular holes who were managed without surgical intervention.
Methods: 63 eyes previously diagnosed with tractional lamellar macular hole between July 1, 2009 and January 30, 2024 without any surgical interventions were enrolled. The change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), lamellar hole diameter, central retinal thickness (CRT) on Optical coherence tomography (OCT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) areas on OCT angiography, and M-chart scores between initial and final visit were assessed.

The supported catalytically active liquid metal solution (SCALMS) concept is based on catalytically active metals dissolved in a low-melting-point liquid metal matrix. These solid alloy particles, deposited over a high area support, transform into a liquid alloy under reaction conditions. Patients And Methods: A retrospective clinical study including 49 patients (57 eyes) with nAMD at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Kepler University Hospital, Linz, Austria was performed. The patients, who had previously been receiving monthly Aflibercept injections with an unsatisfactory treatment response, were switched to intravitreal Faricimab and followed-up between 12/2022 and 12/2023.
