Soft tissues make a skeleton into a mummy and they allow for a diagnosis beyond osteology. Following the approach of structured reporting in clinical radiology, a recently developed checklist was used to evaluate the soft tissue preservation status of the Tyrolean Iceman using computed tomography (CT). The purpose of this study was to apply the "Checklist and Scoring System for the Assessment of Soft Tissue Preservation in CT Examinations of Human Mummies" to the Tyrolean Iceman, and to compare the Iceman's soft tissue preservation score to the scores calculated for other mummies. A whole-body (CT) (SOMATOM Definition Flash, Siemens, Forchheim, Germany) consisting of five scans, performed in January 2013 in the Department of Radiodiagnostics, Central Hospital, Bolzano, was used (slice thickness 0.6 mm; kilovolt ranging from 80 to 140). For standardized evaluation the "CT Checklist and Scoring System for the Assessment of Soft Tissue Preservation in Human Mummies" was used. All checkpoints under category "A. Soft Tissues of Head and Musculoskeletal System" and more than half in category "B. Organs and Organ Systems" were observed. The scoring system accounted for a total score of 153 (out of 200). The comparison of the scores between the Iceman and three mummy collections from Vilnius, Lithuania, and Palermo, Sicily, as well as one Egyptian mummy resulted in overall higher soft tissue preservation scores for the Iceman. Application of the checklist allowed for standardized assessment and documentation of the Iceman's soft tissue preservation status. The scoring system allowed for a quantitative comparison between the Iceman and other mummies. The Iceman showed remarkable soft tissue preservation. · The approach of structured reporting can be transferred to paleoradiology.. · The checklist allowed for standardized soft tissue assessment and documentation.. · The scoring system facilitated a quantitative comparison among mummies.. · Based on CT, the Tyrolean Iceman demonstrated remarkable soft tissue preservation.. · Panzer S, Pernter P, Piombino-Mascali D et al. Transcutaneous devices such as dental implants frequently fail due to infections at their interfaces with epithelial tissues. These infections are facilitated by the lack of integration between the devices and the surrounding soft tissues. This study aims to improve epithelial integration through surface modification of a transcutaneous implant material (polyetheretherketone (PEEK)).

Background: Among childhood cancer survivors, germline rare variants in autosomal dominant cancer susceptibility genes (AD CSGs) could increase subsequent neoplasm (SNs) risks, but risks for rarer SNs and by age at onset are not well understood.
Methods: We pooled the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and St Jude Lifetime Cohort (median follow-up = 29.7 years, range 7.

Radiotherapy, a prevalent and effective treatment for various malignancies, often causes collateral damage to normal skin and soft tissues in the irradiated area. To address this, we developed a novel approach combining SVFG-modified adipose-derived high-activity matrix cell clusters (HAMCC) with concentrated growth factors (CGF) to enhance regeneration and repair of radiation-induced skin and soft tissue injuries. Our study included cellular assays, wound healing evaluations, and histological analyses.

Background: Pilon fractures refer to distal tibial fractures that may involve extra-articular, partial articular, or complete intra-articular components, most commonly caused by high-energy trauma. The choice between early (<72 hours) and delayed (>7 days) surgical fixation significantly impacts clinical outcomes. This study aimed to compare the effects of early vs.

Soft tissue sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of malignancies arising from mesenchymal cells. Recent advancements in genomic profiling have identified novel gene fusions in these tumors, offering new insights into their pathogenesis and potential therapeutic targets. Here, we describe a spindle cell sarcoma harboring a novel gene fusion.
