Acoustic emission (AE) is capable of monitoring the cracking activities inside materials. In this study, embedded sensors were employed to monitor the AE behavior of early age concrete. Type 1-3 cement-based piezoelectric composites, which had lower mechanical quality factor and acoustic impedance, were fabricated and used to make sensors. Sensors made of the composites illustrated broadband frequency response. In a laboratory, the cracking of early age concrete was monitored to recognize different hydration stages. The sensors were also embedded in a mass concrete foundation to localize the temperature gradient cracks.

Background And Objectives: Years before diagnosis of Parkinson disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), or multiple system atrophy (MSA), mild prodromal manifestations can be detected. Longitudinal follow-up of people with prodromal synucleinopathy, particularly idiopathic/isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), enables in-depth clinical phenotyping of early disease, which could facilitate stratification for clinical trials, provide the definition of appropriate end points, or predict phenoconversion more precisely. The aim of this study was to update and expand on previous studies assessing clinical evolution from iRBD to clinically diagnosed disease, up to 14 years before diagnosis.

Background: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections remain a public health problem in Uganda despite biannual national deworming campaigns implemented since the early 2000s. Recent surveys have indicated a heterogeneous STH infection prevalence, suggesting that the current blanket deworming strategy may no longer be cost-effective. This study identified infection predictors, estimated the geographic distribution of STH infection prevalence by species, and calculated deworming needs for school-age children (SAC).

» Early-onset scoliosis (EOS) causes restrictive lung disease, secondary to deformation of the thoracic cavity, stiffening of the chest wall, and weakening of the respiratory muscles.» Early spinal fusion has been shown to limit thoracic growth and be associated with poor pulmonary outcomes. This has led to the rise of growth-friendly surgical techniques to maximize thoracic growth.

Studies have shown that excessive obstetric interventions such as induced labor and caesarean sections have contributed to the shortening of the length of gestation, leading to a left shift in gestational age (GA) at birth. The aim of this study was to analyze trends in GA and the contribution of associated factors to changes in São Paulo city, Brazil during the period 2012-2019. We conducted an observational time-series study of births in São Paulo using data from Brazil's national live births information system (SINASC).

Objective: To describe the normative serum cortisol levels during 25-29 weeks of POG and the association of maternal, psychological, and social factors on serum cortisol in the second and third trimesters in a cohort of pregnant women.
Methods: All eligible pregnant women registered in the maternal care program in Anuradhapura district, Sri Lanka, from July to September 2019 were invited to the Rajarata Pregnancy Cohort (RaPCo). An interviewer-administered questionnaire-based symptom analysis and clinical assessment were conducted at baseline in the first trimester and at follow-up from 25 to 29 weeks POG.
