Article Abstract

To utilize iron oxide nanoparticles in biomedical applications, a sufficient magnetic moment is crucial. Since this magnetic moment is directly proportional to the size of the superparamagnetic nanoparticles, synthesis methods of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with tunable size are desirable. However, most existing protocols are plagued by several drawbacks. Presented here is a one-pot synthesis method resulting in monodisperse superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with a controllable size and magnetic moment using cost-effective reagents. The obtained nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) measurements. Furthermore, the influence of the size on the magnetic moment of the nanoparticles is analyzed by superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry. To emphasize the potential use in biomedical applications, magnetic heating experiments were performed.

CrF Jahn-Teller-Distorted Fluoroperovskites: Expanding to RbCrF and CsCrF.

Inorg Chem

September 2025

Chemistry Department and Center for Material Science and Nanotechnology, University of Oslo, Oslo NO-0315, Norway.

The Jahn-Teller effect significantly affects the CrF octahedra in Cr(II) fluoroperovskites. Here, we report the synthesis, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of RbCrF and CsCrF, thereby completing a comprehensive investigation of the CrF fluoroperovskites. Powder samples are prepared using a wet-chemical method, which allows stabilization of Cr(II).

Owing to their unique combination of magnetic and optical properties, luminescent polychlorinated radicals are promising candidates for advanced applications in both optoelectronics and quantum technologies. In this study, we employ the lineshape formalism within a computational protocol based on time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) to investigate the excited-state properties of six representative members of this family presenting different sizes and excited-state characters. We explore a wide range of density functionals, applying or not the Tamm-Dancoff approximation (TDA), combined with different vibronic models, namely, the vertical gradient (VG), vertical Hessian (VH), and adiabatic Hessian (AH), as well as dipole moment expansions using the Franck-Condon (FC) and Herzberg-Teller (HT) approximations.

Tailoring Unusual Ferrimagnetism in Rare-Earth Iron Garnets via Graphene Interlayers.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 201204, P. R. China.

Ferrimagnets (FiMs), particularly compensated FiMs, composing of coupled sublattices with antiparallel and inequivalent magnetic moments, present a unique material platform for the regulation of magnetism, which is highly desirable for the design of next-generation spin-based devices. Nevertheless, highly efficient methods for controlling its ferromagnetism remains significantly limited owning to the epitaxial growth required for producing high quality and fully featured films. This study, demonstrates the multiple tunability of ferrimagnetism in the rare-earth iron garnets (REIG: thulium iron garnet) film by incorpoating the graphene interlayers.

The BaGdRuO double perovskite oxide demonstrates intriguing behavior, arising from competing antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferrimagnetic (FiM) phases. Under the GGA++SOC scheme, the system exhibits an AFM ground state with a very small energy difference of -11.39 meV compared to the FiM one.
