As a part of our continuing program on the synthesis of steroidal heterocycles, it has been prepared a series of novel steroidal pyrimidine derivatives 4-6via TMSCl, steroidal ketones (1c-3c), urea and benzaldehyde. The systems presented here, are novel scaffolds and have not been described before at 6th position of steroidal-6-one (1c-3c). Structural assignment of newly synthesized compounds was performed by DFT/B3LYP calculations as well as spectral and analytical data. The interactions of compounds (4-6) with HSA were studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, DLS, CD and molecular docking, under imitated physiological conditions. The antitumor activity has been tested in vitro against three cancer cell lines MDA-MB231 (breast carcinoma), HeLa (human cervical carcinoma), HepG2 (hepatic carcinoma) and one non-cancer normal cell lines, PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cell) by MTT assay. In addition, in vitro antioxidant activity and apoptosis assay of the synthesized compounds (4-6) have also been investigated.

Chitosan (Cs), a biodegradable, and low-cost polymer is a good choice for gas sensor applications. In this study, Cs was modified with graphene oxide (GO) and titanium dioxide (TiO), and its electronic properties were calculated using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/LANL2DZ level. The calculated physical parameters include total dipole moment (TDM), HOMO/LUMO energy gap (ΔE), global reactivity descriptors and density of states (DOS) and mapping the electrostatic potential (MESP).

This study examined the adsorption of the mechlorethamine (ME) anti-cancer drug loaded upon MgO nanocage using DFT: B3LYP (6-31G* and 6-311G** basis set) and B3PW91 (6-31G* basis set) calculations. To clarify the electronic, thermochemical, and structural properties of drug (ME) complexes with MgO nanocages, DFT calculations were combined with the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM) study. NBO analysis revealed that the maximum stability energy of the electronic transfer of ME into MgO nanocavities originated from the LP(1)N27 to LP*(1)Mg5 transition with an E2 value of 17.

Sulfur dioxide is a toxic gas with serious environmental and health implications, making the development of selective and efficient sensors an urgent need.
