Rationale: Lymphatic vessel formation and function constitutes a physiologically and pathophysiologically important process, but its genetic control is not well understood.
Objective: Here, we identify the secreted Polydom/Svep1 protein as essential for the formation of the lymphatic vasculature. We analyzed mutants in mice and zebrafish to gain insight into the role of Polydom/Svep1 in the lymphangiogenic process.
Methods And Results: Phenotypic analysis of zebrafish / mutants showed a decrease in venous and lymphovenous sprouting, which leads to an increased number of intersegmental arteries. A reduced number of primordial lymphatic cells populated the horizontal myoseptum region but failed to migrate dorsally or ventrally, resulting in severe reduction of the lymphatic trunk vasculature. Corresponding mutants in the mouse / gene showed normal egression of Prox-1 cells from the cardinal vein at E10.5, but at E12.5, the tight association between the cardinal vein and lymphatic endothelial cells at the first lymphovenous contact site was abnormal. Furthermore, mesenteric lymphatic structures at E18.5 failed to undergo remodeling events in mutants and lacked lymphatic valves. In both fish and mouse embryos, the expression of the gene suggests a nonendothelial and noncell autonomous mechanism.
Conclusions: Our data identify zebrafish and mouse Polydom/Svep1 as essential extracellular factors for lymphangiogenesis. Expression of the respective genes by mesenchymal cells in intimate proximity with venous and lymphatic endothelial cells is required for sprouting and migratory events in zebrafish and for remodeling events of the lymphatic intraluminal valves in mouse embryos.

Objectives: The 9th edition of the Tumor, Node, Metastasis (TNM-9) lung cancer classification is set to replace the 8th edition (TNM-8) starting in 2025. Key updates include the splitting of the mediastinal nodal category N2 into single- and multiple-station involvement, as well as the classification of multiple extrathoracic metastatic lesions as involving a single organ system (M1c1) or multiple organ systems (M1c2). This study aimed to assess how the TNM-9 revisions affect the final staging of lung cancer patients and how these changes correlate with overall survival (OS).

Background: Precise preoperative discrimination of invasive lung adenocarcinoma (IA) from preinvasive lesions (adenocarcinoma in situ [AIS]/minimally invasive adenocarcinoma [MIA]) and prediction of high-risk histopathological features are critical for optimizing resection strategies in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).
Methods: In this multicenter study, 813 LUAD patients (tumors ≤3 cm) formed the training cohort. A total of 1,709 radiomic features were extracted from the PET/CT images.

Some patients with slow-flow vascular malformations (SFVMs) develop recurring cellulitis. The main objective of this study was to describe SFVMs in children. Other objectives were to determine the frequency of cellulitis episodes, and the factors associated with the occurrence of cellulitis.

A 12-week-old intact male golden retriever dog was referred to our clinic with a history of recurrent diarrhea and rectal prolapse and because of a suspected intussusception. An abdominal ultrasound was conducted to confirm the suspicion of an intussusception. An exploratory laparotomy identified a jejuno-ileo-cecal-colic intussusception that was manually reduced.

Angiosarcoma is a rare type of soft-tissue sarcoma, constituting only 1% out of all soft-tissue sarcomas pathologically originating from lymphatic or vascular endothelial cells. Angiosarcomas are reported to be very aggressive with a high incidence of metastases to different sites; therefore, it is very important to determine disease extension and detect local recurrence and/or distant metastases for appropriate management. We report a case of a 55-year-old Indian male who presented with soft-tissue thickening of the left cheek for which biopsy revealed angiosarcoma and was referred for fludeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) to assess the extent of disease highlighting the potential role of FDG PET/CT in rare malignancies like angiosarcomas.
