Background: On September 27, 2024, Rwanda reported an outbreak of Marburg virus disease (MVD), after a cluster of cases of viral hemorrhagic fever was detected at two urban hospitals.
Methods: We report key aspects of the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and treatment of MVD during this outbreak, as well as the overall response to the outbreak. We performed a retrospective epidemiologic and clinical analysis of data compiled across all pillars of the outbreak response and a case-series analysis to characterize clinical features, disease progression, and outcomes among patients who received supportive care and investigational therapeutic agents.

Precise delivery of nanoliter-scale reagents is essential for high-throughput biochemical assays, yet existing platforms often lack real-time control and selective content fusion. Conventional methods rely on passive encapsulation or stochastic pairing, limiting both throughput and biochemical specificity. Here, we introduce an on-demand nanoliter delivery platform that seamlessly integrates electrical sensing, triggered droplet merging, and passive sorting in a single continuous flow.

Children affected by armed conflict suffer devastating physical, emotional, and social harm. War uproots families, forcing many to flee as refugees or internally displaced persons, while others remain trapped in dangerous environments. In these crises, children face disproportionate risks-violence, exploitation, disrupted education, and collapsed healthcare systems.

Recent studies in biology and ecology show striking convergences with process philosophy (PP). Biologists today are debating the real nature of evolution and of life itself, which is increasingly considered as a set of interrelated processes rather than a set of tangible species and material lineages. This perspective of focusing on changes can also be found with ecologists and environmental ethicists, whose studies feed into as well as draw on PP principles.

Two series of robust pillared metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are obtained under solvothermal conditions by combining a metal salt with either Hbpdc, biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, or Hpda, 1,4-phenylenediacrylic acid, forming 2D layers, which are pillared by L, an alloxazine derivative of 1,4-di(pyridin-4-yl)benzene using a one-pot three-component strategy. Crystallographic studies reveal the formation of two isomorphous series of compounds, namely 1-M (from Hbpdc with M = Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) and 2-M (from Hpda with M = Co or Cu). The multifunctional compounds have high decomposition temperatures, and their sorption properties were measured, revealing relatively low surface areas.
