Article Abstract

In the present study, three compositions of W-doped titania nano-photocatalyst are synthesized via the sol-gel method. The powders obtained were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic performances of the different photocatalysts are tested with respect to the degradation of Diuron in water solutions under simulated solar light and visible light irradiation. The WTiO catalyst exhibits better photoactivity than the pure TiO even under simulated solar light and visible light. This improvement in activity was attributed to photoelectron/hole separation efficiency.

The sensitivity of phytoplankton growth to chemical stressors influences the composition and function of phytoplankton communities. In this study, we compared the growth, photosynthetic, and metabolic responses of the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB-469 and the green alga Raphidocelis subcapitata FACHB-271 to herbicide diuron. The 5-day growth inhibition test showed the M.

Diuron is a common herbicide for major crops, but its environmental persistence threatens ecosystems and human health. This study presents a hybrid treatment strategy that combines photoelectrochemical oxidation (PECO) and subsequent biodegradation as a sustainable alternative for diuron remediation. A novel laser-fabricated anode composed of Ti/RuO-SbO-TiO was developed and employed in the PECO process, offering enhanced electron transfer efficiency and stability.

Wastewater treatment plants play a key role in the release of pharmaceuticals and other contaminants into the aquatic environment, causing negative effects on the ecosystems of receiving water bodies. This work aimed to assess the removal efficiency of real loads of these contaminants by wastewater-native microalgae consortia acting on treated wastewater previously subjected to secondary treatment. Wastewater sampling and removal efficiency experiments were conducted over 1 year at three different sampling points.
