Background: Gradual correction of lower-limb angular deformities using external fixators such as the Taylor Spatial Frame (TSF) is a well-established technique for addressing complex, multiplanar deformities. A common yet understudied adjunct to this method is the use of a distal tibio-fibular syndesmotic screw to stabilize the ankle mortise during correction. Despite being frequently practiced, the necessity and efficacy of this intervention remain unclear.

Thrombotic diseases represent a significant global health burden, particularly for middle-aged and elderly populations. Medicinal leeches, such as and , have been traditionally used for their anticoagulant properties. The genomes of these leeches each harbor three lefaxin genes, which are designated and , respectively.

Introduction: Although Interleukin (IL)-6-type cytokine signaling is critical for maintaining the body's homeostasis, aberrant signaling has been observed in numerous diseases including autoimmunity and cancer. Currently, all approved biologics that inhibit IL-6-type cytokines specifically target the key pro-inflammatory mediator IL-6 or its receptor (IL6R). Historically, direct inhibition of glycoprotein 130 (gp130)-the shared transmembrane receptor for IL-6-type cytokines-was avoided due to concerns that broad suppression might cause more harm than benefit.

Introduction: Recent technological advances in fetal medicine have led some investigators to reconsider ventriculoamniotic shunting for fetal hydrocephalus, an intervention that was attempted in the 1980s but was abandoned due to perceived lack of effect. The objective of this manuscript describes outcomes after induction of hydrocephalus followed by ventriculoamniotic shunt placement and postmortem analysis in the ovine model.
Methods: Mixed-breed fetal sheep underwent induction of hydrocephalus by injection of BioGlue® into the cisterna magna at ∼85 days gestation followed by ventriculoamniotic shunt placement at ∼100 days gestation.

Folate, vitamin B12 and one carbon metabolism are fundamental to genetics and epigenetics, and to nervous system development and brain health at all ages. The neuropsychiatric complications of deficiency or inborn errors of folate and vitamin B12 are well documented but there has been controversy about whether excess folic acid is also harmful to the nervous system, especially in the presence of vitamin B12 deficiency. There is now substantial and consistent clinical, epidemiological and experimental evidence that excess folic acid is potentially harmful to the nervous system.
