Article Abstract

We identify a new type of shock wave by constructing a stationary expansion shock solution of a class of regularized shallow-water equations that include the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony and Boussinesq equations. An expansion shock exhibits divergent characteristics, thereby contravening the classical Lax entropy condition. The persistence of the expansion shock in initial value problems is analysed and justified using matched asymptotic expansions and numerical simulations. The expansion shock's existence is traced to the presence of a non-local dispersive term in the governing equation. We establish the algebraic decay of the shock as it is gradually eroded by a simple wave on either side. More generally, we observe a robustness of the expansion shock in the presence of weak dissipation and in simulations of asymmetric initial conditions where a train of solitary waves is shed from one side of the shock.

PurposeCritical Care Echocardiography (CCE) is now a major tool in assessments of ICU patients. We aimed to evaluate its clinical impact in patients admitted to the intensive care unit for acute respiratory failure (ARF) or shock.MethodsWe conducted a single-center retrospective observational study of all patients admitted between January 1th and December 31st 2019 for ARF or shock, who received CCE in the first 12 h of admission.

We previously demonstrated lipid nanoparticle-mediated CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing to disrupt the gene encoding cytochrome P450 oxidoreductase (Cypor), combined with transient administration of acetaminophen (APAP), to repopulate the liver with healthy hepatocytes and rescue a phenylketonuria mouse model. This study aimed to investigate electroporation-mediated delivery of -targeting CRISPR-Cas9 ribonucleoproteins into wild-type hepatocytes, combined with liver engraftment under APAP treatment, as an in vivo selection approach in a mouse model of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (). Electroporation provides higher delivery efficiency compared to lipid nanoparticles.

Breast cancer is hallmarked by phenotypic transitions enabling abnormal cell proliferation and invasion. The stress-protective transcription factor heat shock factor 2 (HSF2) is associated with cancer, but its function in breast carcinogenesis remains poorly understood. Analysis of human breast tumor samples and mouse in vivo xenografts uncovered that HSF2 expression and activity undergo dynamic changes as a function of tumor progression.

Background: Amidst sluggish global economic growth and rising anti-globalization sentiments, it has become imperative to reassess the benefits and hidden costs of globalization. Simultaneously, with the fading of the "demographic dividend" and the intensification of population aging, understanding children's health and its underlying determinants is crucial for sustainable socio-economic development. China provides an ideal case for examining these issues.

This study explores the Triki-Biswas (TB) model, a novel model describing soliton dynamics in monomodal optical fibers with non-Kerr dispersion, to obtain optical solitons. Optical bright and singular solitons were derived using the generalized Jacobi elliptic function (gJEF) method and the [Formula: see text]expansion method. Trigonometric, hyperbolic, exponential, polynomial, and rational functions are obtained.
