Leptin has been shown to affect energy homeostasis, learning and memory, and some models of anxiolytic action. However, leptin has produced inconsistent results in previous non-operant behavioural tests of anxiety. Here, we test the anxiolytic potential of leptin in an operant paradigm that has produced positive results across all classes of anxiolytic so far tested. Rats were tested in the Fixed Interval 60 Seconds (FI60) task following administration of 0/0.5/1.0mg/kg (i.p.) leptin or an active anxiolytic control of 5mg/kg (i.p.) chlordiazepoxide (CDP). By the end of the 14days of testing in the FI60 task, 0.5mg/kg leptin released suppressed responding in a manner similar to CDP, and 1.0mg/kg leptin produced a relative depression in responding, a similar outcome pattern to previously tested 5HT-agonist anxiolytics. This suggests that leptin behaves similarly to established serotonergic anxiolytics such as buspirone and fluoxetine; with the delay in development of effect during testing, and the inverted-U dose-response curve explaining the inconsistent behaviour of leptin in behavioural tests of anxiety, as this type of pattern is common to serotonergic anxiolytics.

Mechanisms underlying cardiovascular, affective, and metabolic (CAM) multimorbidity are incompletely defined. We assessed how two risk factors-chronic stress (CS) and a Western diet (WD)-interact to influence cardiovascular function, resilience, adaptability, and allostatic load (AL); explore pathway involvement; and examine relationships with behavioral, metabolic, and systemic AL. Male C57Bl/6 mice (8 weeks old, n = 64) consumed a control (CD) or WD (12%-65%-23% or 32%-57%-11% calories from fat-carbohydrate-protein) for 17 weeks, with half subjected to 2 h daily restraint stress over the final 2 weeks (CD + CS and WD + CS).

Background: Obesity and the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) are associated with gut microbiota composition and diversity, which may contribute to alterations in the regulation of hormones involved in satiety, given the gut microbiota's role in regulating host appetite. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association of gut microbiota composition and alpha-diversity at the genus-level on postprandial changes in satiety hormones, and appetitive measures in individuals with obesity, given either a meal rich in UPF or a meal without UPF.
Methods: Individuals were randomized to two groups: a) a non-UPF meal and b) a UPF meal.

Introduction: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupoint-embedded needling combined with auricular acupressure in treating simple obesity associated with spleen deficiency and dampness accumulation.
Methods: Ninety-six patients with simple obesity were randomized into two groups. The intervention group received acupoint-embedded needling and auricular acupressure, while the control group received conventional acupuncture.
Animal display behaviors, such as advertisement songs, are flashy and attention grabbing by necessity. In order to balance the costs and benefits of such signals, individuals must be able to assess both their own energetic state and their social environment. In this study, we investigated the role of leptin, a hormonal signal of high energy balance, in regulating the vocal advertisement display of Alston's singing mouse ( ).

Establishing such intervals for water buffaloes is important due to the growing use of this species in livestock, their relevance as a major source of meat and milk, and the lack of specific reference data for certain categories within the species. This study evaluated the blood parameters in growing male water buffaloes.
