Introduction: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the scientific process is advancing at a remarkable speed, thanks to continued innovations in large language models. While AI provides widespread benefits, including editing for fluency and clarity, it also has drawbacks, including fabricated content, perpetuation of bias, and lack of accountability. The editorial board of (RAPM) therefore sought to develop best practices for AI usage and disclosure.

Oxidative Stress Disrupts Gill Function in : Consequences for Ion Transport, Apoptosis, and Autophagy.

Antioxidants (Basel)

July 2025

Key Laboratory of Freshwater Fisheries and Germplasm Resources Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Wuxi 214081, China.

Oxidative stress is a key mediator of physiological dysfunction in aquatic organisms under environmental challenges, yet its comprehensive impacts on gill physiology require further clarification. This study investigated the molecular and cellular responses of gills to hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced oxidative stress, integrating antioxidant defense, ion transport regulation, and stress-induced cell apoptosis and autophagy. Morphological alterations in the gill filaments were observed, characterized by septum degeneration, accumulation of haemolymph cells, and pronounced swelling.

Background: Systematic reviews (SRs) synthesize and evaluate data, mainly from randomized trials, which then guides the development of clinical recommendations in evidence-based medicine. However, the data and methodological information in the included papers can often be lacking or unclear, and reviewers usually need to contact the authors of included studies for clarifications. Contacting authors is recommended, but it is unclear how often SR teams do it, or what the level of response is.
