Using connectionist modeling, we address fundamental questions concerning the acquisition process of musical tonal schema of listeners. Compared to models of previous studies, our connectionist model (Learning Network for Tonal Schema, LeNTS) was better equipped to fulfill three basic requirements. Specifically, LeNTS was equipped with a learning mechanism, bound by culture-general properties, and trained by sufficient melody materials. When exposed to Western music, LeNTS acquired musical 'scale' sensitivity early and 'harmony' sensitivity later. The order of acquisition of scale and harmony sensitivities shown by LeNTS was consistent with the culture-specific acquisition order shown by musically westernized children. The implications of these results for the acquisition process of a tonal schema of listeners are as follows: (a) the acquisition process may entail small and incremental changes, rather than large and stage-like changes, in corresponding neural circuits; (b) the speed of schema acquisition may mainly depend on musical experiences rather than maturation; and

Macroautophagy/autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process through which cells degrade cytoplasmic substances via autophagosomes. During the initiation of autophagosome formation, the ULK/Atg1 complex serves as a scaffold that recruits and regulates downstream ATG/Atg proteins and ATG9/Atg9-containing vesicles. Despite the essential role of the ULK/Atg1 complex, its components have changed during evolution; the ULK complex in mammals consists of ULK1 (or ULK2), RB1CC1, ATG13, and ATG101, whereas the Atg1 complex in the yeast lacks Atg101 but instead has Atg29 and Atg31 along with Atg17.

The seed microbiota, a still underexplored component of plant-microbe interactions, plays a pivotal role in plant development and holds significant promise for advancing sustainable agriculture. By influencing essential processes such as germination, stress tolerance, nutrient acquisition and defence, seed-associated microbes offer unique advantages beyond those of soil- or rhizosphere-associated microbiomes. Notably, they are transmitted both vertically and horizontally; however, fundamental questions remain regarding their origin, ecological dynamics and functional roles across environments.

A growing literature explores the representational detail of infants' early lexical representations, but no study has investigated how exposure to real-life acoustic-phonetic variation impacts these representations. Indeed, previous experimental work with young infants has largely ignored the impact of accent exposure on lexical development. We ask how routine exposure to accent variation affects 6-month-olds' ability to detect mispronunciations.

This study investigates learning transfer processes in the teaching of pure tacts and intraverbals within the context of verbal behavior. The objectives were: to assess whether training pure tacts and intraverbals, through the inclusion of different stimuli, facilitates learning transfer to new impure tacts, and to determine whether one of these verbal operants (pure tact or intraverbal) better promotes learning transfer. The sample included 54 children aged 11-12 years, using a within-subjects experimental design with pre-post measures.

Representatives of the medical device industry are routinely present in hospitals to provide education and support related to their products which, collectively, represent a company's knowledge management strategy. Between 2021 and 2022, I undertook an interpretive, phenomenological qualitative study at a large, urban, academic medical centre in Canada to examine industry's role in practice-based education. I conducted interviews (n = 23) and focus groups (N = 2) with 36 participants working across departments in roles spanning the point-of-care to executive leadership.
